Transition affected Sri Lanka so badly the SL team was once full of experienced cricketers like Dilshan, Sanga, Tharanga, Mahela, Murali, Malinga, Mathews, Kulasekara but Mathews and Perera is no more in the team they should have stuck with them but they have a very new team who is just struggling against even the minnows now 😢 Had to see the Asian giants like this once they were a nightmare to Aussie & Proteas but not anymore

As I have watched cricket since childhood in my opinion what went wrong for Srilanka is that all of their experience players left the team together, thus it created a lacking spot of mentorship on field. See how our Dhoni Sir groomed the young starts and matured them on field. Srilanka lacked that kind of mentorship

Old players retired but while they were playing, no one gives thought about for replacement. Like what will happen when these legendary group retire. Such as who will replace. So best think should have been, if they would have played with 2 to 3 youngsters. They would have made their cricket team well. But all retired one after one and you have new team totally.

The real issue - Sri lanka has no pipeline for non wealthy youth that dont live in colombo. For all the millions of Sri Lankam youngsters in central +south etc if they want to pursue cricket no matter how talented they are they have to move to colombo. Murali, Sangakkara, Jayasuriya etc etc etc all had to move to colombo and luckily murali and Sangakkara came from wealthy families. Jayasuriya and several others famously lived in Arjuna Ranatunga's family home in colombo for years. THIS IS THE REAL ISSUE.
