Yes - Cast iron works great with electric and induction stove tops. Even cast iron with a raised ring on the bottom works perfectly on glass cooking surfaces.

I use an induction range. I protect the ceramic top with a Teflon BBQ mat under the cast iron pans. The mat is less than 1 mm thick, and no energy loss.

I've just moved from a house with a gas stove to one with a glass top and I'm finding a huge difference in how my cast iron preforms. The pans take much longer to distribute the heat and becacuse of this the pans are warping a lot more due to areas of the pan being hotter and therefore expanding quicker than other parts. It definitely take time to get use to

Says right in the manual for our GE induction range: put a sheet of parchment paper under cast iron. Works for us….

Thank you, that was informative. I do however want to know if I can heat my cast iron pan smoking hot on an induction plate without damaging its cooktop? I like a very hot pan when the steak hits it. The reason I want to use the induction plate is so I can sear the steak outside on the balcony and save the house from grease and smoke. I use the sous vide method of cooking so only use the pan to sear.

My electric cooktop heats up quite quickly. I don't know if that's because mine is a countertop model that's hardwired. Cooking on cast iron any type of fry pan extremely. In many cases a medium tricky on it. In many cases what the manual says is medium high is actually too high for cooking instructions for burgers that state to have a medium high Flame. Even medium is too high on my particular stove.

Dont use "might" as if this is some conjecture than won't 100% answer your question.

I cracked my skillet on an induction stove.. I think because I set the power too high and the skilled did not got heated evenly. The 3 times I used it on an induction stove the food in the center got burned and the one near the border not. So in the end a crack appeared right across the center

What do you think about cast iron on infrared ceramic cookers? Would that be better or worse than induction ceramic glass?

Talks in video of heat ring raising pan off burner just slightly...

Shows pan on burner so small, pan surface is entirely on burner.

Yes you can cook with cast iron on a glass cooktop! You can also drive with your knees on the steering wheel while eating a cheeseburger and drinking a milkshake. While both are possible, neither are the best! Gas cooktops are KING!!

It is not entirely clear if induction stoves are safe for potential long term health issues. Even the instructions say you shouldn't stand too close to them.

There is NO benefit to a glass top stove . Coil stoves will boil water faster and the whole top does not get hot like a glass top .
And best of all, pots and pan don't SPIN around on a coil stove.
