Bees have recently been named the most important living being on our planet. Saving them is saving us.

We should focus on saving ALL bees. Not just honey bees.

Bees are not the problem, wild bees are endangered not the domesticated ones.

Beekeeper here.
There are more honeybee in North America now, than ever. They are not endangered, but some of our native bees are in trouble, and they are often more effective pollinators than honeybees. Wild honeybees (feral) are not as numerous as in the past, because without human intervention, they are susceptible to mites and disease.

Honey bees are NOT an endangered species

The bees that make honey are not the bees that need saving. The bees that need saving are natural local pollinators

Well not mentioning pollination as a reason we need to save them is wild

My wife once asked why I keep stopping while I’m mowing the lawn. I told her because I’m trying not to mow down the bees on the flowering weeds. If you look closely in spring & summer, 1/2 the dandelion weeds have bees on them, and bees are not the quickest to move out of the way. I even pointed the exhaust down towards the front of the mower to give them a fair chance to fly away before the blades reach them. On average I avoid mowing about a dozen bees in my 1 1/2 acres every cut! I wish others do the same!

Number 4 it's delicious!

My dogs veterinarian actually uses honey in her practice to treat certain wounds throughout the recovery process. She explained it's not unique to their practice and was widely used regardless of advances in medicine. I had no idea

Honey is a bunch of sugar in a little bit of water with some trace enzymes, pollen and bee mucus. It's desiccating because it's supersaturated with sugar, so water more favourably enters into the solution than the other way around. This means it pulls bacteria apart so that the water inside can be absorbed by the honey. This is also why it doesn't go bad under normal circumstances. This is also part of why it helps with dressing wounds. It's also why it clarifies skin, as it's a natural humectant(pulls water out), drawing moisture from within the skin to the outside, absorbing dead skin cells and hydrating the living ones. As for helping cells heal faster, I'm a bit skeptical, but reducing chance of infection means lower inflammation and your cells could potentially heal faster, just like with antibiotic cream. Honey might also act a sorta filter for air as it can dissolve and release oxygen, but will kill free floating cells.

While it's very cool and I agree we need to save the bees, honey's abilities are purely a product of it being essentially syrup. We can just make it ourselves.

Not just 1 Bee specie
they are all equally important

The "perfectly edible" claim is more about honey's chemical stability than a practical recommendation to consume ancient honey.

A very important reminder folks seem to forget is the importance of taking care of NATIVE bee species that have co-evolved with the local flora for eons. They are important to the native plants and even more so than honey bees who might not even pollinate said plants.

European honey bees are great, but are only one part of the whole equation locally and globally.

as many have mentioned, saving bees is way beyond just honey, which is great. We need to save the natural bee's that pollinate

Wonderful! But we should preserve nature not for ourselves, but first of all for its own sake!

“Saving the bees” shouldn’t be a selfish ambition.

I gave money to a charity that helps poor people in third world countries learn how to be beekeepers. They give them equipment and training. Money well spent!

I am 74, my Dad kept Bees. My favorite memories of my Dad is him carrying a huge Roaster Pan of Honey in after he robbed the Bees. He and Mom would put it up in Pint and Quart Jars. RIP Momma and Daddy.
