I did musicals at my local playhouse, and this was actually one of the exercises they do there every day. It really does work!

this worked great. Also, I did it while holding my 2 month old son and I've never seen him smile so much!

Super helpful tip! And I would love to see a looped GIF of Bill making that face over and over again.

Thanks for all the great tips you provide. Just listened to your webinar on the 3 Steps to A 6-Figure VO Business. You tell all in this webinar. Thanks again!

Going through my old voiceover class notes - found the CORK EXERCISE - oh yeah! When warming up like Bill suggests in this video, and before recording, hold a cork ( a regular wine bottle cork) in your mouth with your teeth : over-enunciate and exaggerate the consonants and vowels as you read the copy - then when you read the copy without the cork in your mouth, it will be easier to read and enunciate - would love to see you do a video on this Bill - or added to this video!

Asa newbie I find these ideas are great.A week or so ago you told us about the throat as opposed to diaphragm centered voice. Both have been a nice help. Thanks

Wow ! That hurt ! I think I did it too many times because when I began to speak my mouth wouldn't move how I wanted it to. Great exercise though and I'll keep doing it to strengthen the muscles as it can only do good long term. It might even help to give me a face lift ! Thanks.

I've been looking for articulation exercises for my speech students and all I could muster up was the pencil in the teeth one. This helps me out so much in trying to tackle this problem from a different angle. Thanks!

I do this along with reciting my lines a few times with a pencil horizontally clamped down on with my back teeth. Ridiculously helpful. Like practice swinging a weighted golf club or baseball bat—when you go for real you feel great.

Here's what works for me, kind of in the same vein: Reading something other than a script aloud in a voice somewhere between Bullwinkle and Dr. Demento, except more exaggerated. Seriously.

Love this tip, thanks Bill! You should call it the "fish face" exercise! Do you ever do tonque twister warm ups? Rodney Saulsberry has a fun book on full of them.
