All those years of torturing her daughter just because she was brilliant, wanting her to a life devoted to mathematics, preventing her from seeing boys because she didn't want to be distracted, and then doing the same thing with her granddaughter, despite her son's objections, and the book just takes her breath away. The realization that she wanted the book published only after her mother's death, hit Evelyn like a freight train. I think in one minute, she experienced everything at once: shock, realization, regret, remorse, and sadness, as well as happiness and pride that her daughter had finally done it, though at the cost of her life.

Honestly such a beautiful scene. McKenna was such a pro. As an actress I know it's really hard to cry in these emotional scenes and honestly even harder to build it up from the start. She deserves recognition

This scene never fails to break me down. The way he sat for a slight second and took her hits because he knows deep down that he deserves it but whispers “stop” as if to say “I’m guilty enough, I can’t take this anymore and I’m sorry.” They’re both such great actors.

The first time I saw this, I almost lost my mind from how emotional it was. I cried like a baby when Mary was slapping Frank and he was trying to hold her and say I'm sorry. Well done.

I could hardly feel bad for the woman regardless. She had barely been in Mary's life a month and history looked to be repeating itself. Luckily, Frank finally stepped up.
