Ironically the Soviets built the MIG-25 bcoz they were terrified of American high altitude planes, the XB-70 (which never went into production) and the SR-71.

Usa was scared about the unseen foxbat. Turns out that the mig didn't have all of the things that the US was worried about and the mig turned out to be not very good

I live how the voiceover refers to the Foxbqt as the Mig-35, which is correct, then later calls it the Mig-25.

Either way, I'm pretty sure the title should be switched from past tense to present tense because the F-15 most definitely could hold its own against current day Russian and European fighters.

What is interesting is the only plane that came close to winning against the F-15 was a Mig 25 in 1991.

The F-15 is still the best fighter plane out there. F 22 and F 35 while being stealth still are not as nimble as the f15. F 15 Eagle is still the king

No matter what, history is already written. The F-15 Eagle has now and will always hold ALL records as the ULTIMATE Air Superiority Fighter, F-22 or not. The Raptor, only serving in the US Air Force, has already handicapped it
. Don't get me wrong, I agree that no other nation should have it, possibly allowing its stealth production to be exposed and stolen as it already has. And the next war will NOT be a BVR war of Air Dominance. So the F-22's prominence of today is a mute point. F-18's even has yet to surpass both the F-14 and F-16 in Air combat, until the carrier war happens with the Chinese, so the Super Hornet has to just sit sidelines for now.

MiG 25 was designed specifically for 60s and 70s era BVR combat. It was not a very good dogfighter at all. The F15 completely surpassed it when it got the AIM 120s. But later on the Soviets during the late 70s to early 80s came out with the one and only Su 27 which surpassed the F15 greatly at the time until the AIM 120s came into service and then even still surpassed the Su 27SMs R77 until Russia came out with better Versions of the R77 (R77P, R77-1, R77M, K77M and etc.) Also the development of the R37 and the Su 35 which would completely pass the F15s level eventually. But the F15 is still legendary and amazing.

The first kill by an F-15 was scored by Israeli Air Force (IAF) ace Moshe Melnik in 1979. On August 31 1982 during Lebanon war a Syrian MIG-25 fighter jet was shot down first time in aerial history by an Israeli F-15 pilot over Beirut. On 1983 IAF fighter pilot Zivi Nedivi landed his F-15D after a midair collision with only one wing left. Fun fact : The majority of the F-15 kills are claimed by the Israeli Air Force.
