You didn’t take into account how far away the capsule is from your mouth. The SM7B capsule was much further away from your mouth compared to the MV7.

Bro maybe the mv7 sound “weird” because you have the mic that close to your mouth, it’s really not that fair of a comparison. You literally have it pressed against your lips when the general rule of thumb is to have the microphone about a fist away from your mouth :/

bad test and comparrsion. try again with the Shure RK 345 (cap windscreen that comes with sm7b) on both and they sound 90% identical. they rest can be tweaked by EQ. there is a reason many people including myself has opened up to the mv7. Especially if u need a mic to go also for like vacation streams. out of the house podcast and so on. 2 for 1 for half price is better imo when they are so close in sound

IIRC the actual microphone is placed farther down in the SM7B than in it's budget counterpart, which is why you don't get as much of a proximity effect in the SM7B

The reason it may sound weird to you is because 1. U got it close to your mouth. 2. What you can do is buy the shure sm7b foam windscreen and it will make your plosives sound better

Cool you that you got the SM7B. For those that can afford to splurge the $400, you can’t go wrong as long as you know how to record it. A budget option is the SM57 at $99 and with the right EQ, it’s very hard to tell the difference from the 4 times more expensive SM7B.

Surprisingly the 100 dollar sm58 sounds very ver similar to the 400 dollar sm7b.

Very good mic! I was torn between this and the EV RE20. I found a package deal on the RE20 with a full GOXLR for $400, so I went with that. Want to get the sm7db soon though.

Do you know how many mics are on the market? There are tousends. Tbont bc 500 is very similar to sm7b. Also Superlux has clone.

I use a Sennheiser e935 and it offers a crisp clean and clear sound my voice needs. The Shure SM7B for someone like a tame voice like myself tend to sound a bit dull. Great mic regardless just not for everyone. I think people mostly buy it because it conveys the individual has extra cash to burn and everyone has one. You don't need to spend 400$ onlyt to still need to spend 100$ on a mic activator to get the most out of your mic. So many great options but again the SM7B is quality.

This is the first time, I heard readable and clear as a description for the SM7B, given it is so very smooth and dark sounding. One microphone is „harsh“ to him, then the SM7B is allegedly „clear“ sounding. The SM7B is unmatched? Heh… if you say so… SM58 with windshield. Shure Beta 58A with wind shield. It’s the industry standard? EV RE20, Sennheiser MKH 416. I’m sorry, but the SM7B is not the industry standard, it’s a hype mic.

I have this mic in my possession, its great. My opinion is that those streamers mostly use it as an image thing
