I was camping at Yala National Park with my friends, and dawn had just broken and we left the “Saifedeen” camp site at “Yala National Park” and was on the lookout for the top predator of Sri Lanka. The elusive leopard. This was my first time taking my “New Ford Ranger Cab” to the Jungle. I was a bit vary on the roads I took. Wondering if my vehicle will get damaged … and I also had the thought of being surrounded by elephants, in my head.

Then my tracker “Sumith” told me to turn in to a narrow road, which was just enough form my cab to pass. And when we started driving, we saw a lone elephant walk straight at us. For a moment my heart stopped, because there wasn’t room for both of us to pass by. I stopped the vehicle and observed the elephant for a while. Then I noticed the elephant numbers started increasing and all of a sudden there was three elephant calves sleeping in front of my vehicle. We observed the calves playing in front of us being watched by their mother and elder sister. And more elephants started appearing from the adjoining bushes.
