CC on for subtitles. Christmas is here and the brickwork is almost complete! Just a few blocks here and there.. Last week was sunny and relatively warm so we made the most of it.. In this part of the series we completed the hydro insulation of foundations on which we placed another layer of 5 cm expanded polystyrene, area close to the surface and above the ground level was insulated with 12 cm of xps. Xps was covered with dimpled drainage foil. Bottom of the canal was covered with 0.5cm gravel to create a 0.5% slope on top of which we placed a drainage pipe wrapped in geo-textile. Pipe is then covered with rough gravel. We removed the formwork under the floor slab from Part three video. We continued with brickwork up to the roof level. The contours of the house are now really visible, the roof will be single slope to the south side to maximize the area for the solar panels which I plan to install some day. Next step is to pour some more concrete and place the roof anchors. Wood for the roof and the south side glass wall is in the workshop and we plan to start cutting it to measure next week. Hopefully the next video of the project will be with the roof on:) Depends on the weather though..
hope you like this fifth part of the project! Please ask any question in the comments and as always, subscribe for more!:D

Music: Mozart's Cmajor Flute and Harp Concerto — 3. Rondeau allegro, played by Alexander Murray, flute and Ann Yeung, harp, with the Sinfonia da Camera of the University of Illinois: Ian Hobson, music director.

I have never seen such a labor intensive method of building a home. Y'all sure do things differently 'over there'!

Mann I watched every one of these videos in 1 day. I enjoyed them so much. Then when I got up to do something I paused it so I wouldn’t miss any.😊

I'm absolutely fascinated watching the progress on this. Your attention to detail is commendable and makes it obvious you are building a home you expect to have for a long time.

I followed until the 5th part. The combination of a great husband and an amazing wife, resulting in a super great building. This building is guaranteed to be able to survive up to seven descendants.

Nice! Seems to be a slanted roof design. Considering the track history of your build quality, that house is going to be phenomenal. Cheers!

Just some comments mainly for fun:
- Wrapping the drainage pipe with geotextile looks like overkill (as the layer around the rough gravel should keep any sand or dirt from entering the trench space) but better to be safe than sorry! (Or is there some reason... like your local building code?)
- The attention to detail when applying the bitumen membrane deserves an award (the Adrian Monk award).
- The size and amount of rebar required for your seismic zone doesn´t cease to amaze me.
Great video. Glad you are making good progress! Looking forward to the woody parts.

I'm a little late watching this update. Fantastic progress. When this is over please share the drawings from the plans. I was happy to see the foreman hard at work. I feel very confident of the results with her on the job. 🙂
