Behr dynasty in eggshell is definitely one of the best paints I’ve used. Super durable and smooth finish, but their “eggshell” is really really shiny. Do not use their untinted ultra pure white, especially for semi gloss. 5 coats minimum I swear

So, Jeff, just hold my beer! ;-)
After watching your(!) videos about investing into my own house - decided to paint interior, to begin with.
But. As an (ex-)scientist I HAD to experiment with more-or-less ALL reasonably available brands.
Everything was bought with my own money - so I spent/invested(?!) almost 200cad to pick up needed color and paint quality on almost all possible samples.
And here is my non-prof, ultimately non-bias results of this experiment.
I live in Montreal, btw, - kinda your neighbour.

Paint quality:
Sico Signature - #1 Canadian-built paint - close to Zero VOC, easy to paint for such a clumsy diyer as myself, but really waterish (low level of solid particles) and requires +1 layer at least (2 for white-on-white ceiling, three at least on walls for my conditions) - imho drastically overpriced, just as almost everything Canadian (yes, smbd has to pay for Canadian socialism, right?! ) - take it right, it would be OK for 50-75% of it's price.
Btw. After having poor experience with Canadian Sico decided not even try some Quebec brands. Sorry :-(
Benjamin Moore Ben - overpriced (90cad/gal - cheapest BM == coolest Behr pricewise), has some smell, not terrible, but still present, quality is imho on the level of Behr Premium Plus give-or-take.
Valspar Ultra - nice, low VOC, somewhere inbetween Behr Premium Plus and Behr Ultra, a bit less thick, i.e. lower solid particles level, but good enough - almost picked it for the whole project.
Behr Premium Plus - nice, slightly worse than Valspar Ultra, slightly thicker though, low VOC.
Behr Ultra - nice, thick enough, but not heavy, has some odor, but manageable, nice 2-layer coverage, slightly better than Behr Premium Plus in everything - I find, worth of price increase - my goto at the end.
Behr Marquee - nice-nice-nice, really thick (not to say fatty) paint with excellent coverage - too thick for my current skill level on wide surfaces as wall, but ok on trims (I do think that professionals can go with 1 layer on walls though) - I took it for walk-in closets and doors and trims in order to decrease number of layers.

Color and sheen quality:
Sico Signature - color is OK, sheen is 1 step weaker than Behr
Benjamin Moore Ben - color is OK, sheen is N/A - they do not sell samples with sheen - you have to buy 1-liter can for <whatever> cad
Valspar Ultra - color is great, sheen is N/A they do not sell samples with sheen - you have to buy 1-liter can for 20+ cad
Behr Premium Plus - color is great, sheen is better then Sico, but worse than Behr Ultra
Behr Ultra - great color, great sheen - nothing to complain
Behr Marquee - color, sheen, same as overall quality, are the best in this test, just not to my level of painting skills - dries out too quickly for me.

Customer service:
Sico - almost not possible to buy sample, and even IF succeeded - samples do not have sheen. I bought 2 gallons and had to switch to smth else (spoiler - Behr Ultra). It took me 4 visits to 2 Rona stores - 1st Rona store is ok, 2nd - sucks). Purchase process in kinda almost ok-ish, paint is notgoodenough/overpriced.
Valspar - bought at Renodepot (Lowe's in the rest of the world) - same crap with samples, staff doesn't know s4!t, all the time asking for help from seniors, a lot of catches with prices and promotions. Paint is ok/good, purchase process is poor.
Benjamin-Moore - on my question what's the difference between Ben and Aura I got some arrogant look and "this is our best paint" - kinda such a peasant like me is not worse of it sort of.
Behr - at HomeDepot - great customer service, good-to-great paint, samples are always in stock (limitted though - keep it in mind if you're gonna buy a LOT of samples), Marquee and Dynasty samples contain sheen - so you WILL see what you're buying.
Sherwin-Williams - do not have store close to me and was really tired and frustrated after collaborating with Sico, Valspar and Benjamin-Moore representatives.
C2 - tried to contact them multiple times with question where/how to buy/talk (not available in Quebec, closest store is located in 170 km in Ottawa - but they didn't give horse s4!t - after googling found out that they drastically overpriced, like BM, but with really poor distribution network - make your own decisions.

So, with my own money, I decided to goto with Behr Ultra and Behr Marquee.
If you're on the budget and with all-house project and will save like 150-200 cad - Behr Premium Plus IS ok enough. I AM on the budget, but still decided to goto Behr Ultra/Marquee.

Would I switch from Behr Ultra to smth else? - Yes, if it's better qualities, but need to try it first and get sponsored ;-)

I want to paint a light color over a dark blue wall. After 3 coats of primer I still see the old color, should I still go ahead and paint?

Project Farm did a really good paint comparison video already. TL;DW: Sherwin Williams Emerald blew away the competition. I’d like to see a refresher where Emerald is compared to BM and Behr’s new Dynasty line.

Friendly Tip! Jeff, I agree. To many type of paints. I am sure many people find this very confusing. Most Painters and DIY"S don't take the time to read the label instructions on the can. Also, another very important thing is witch paint brush and roller works best with the paint you are using. Once the paint has completely dry, what is left is Solids. Does everyone know how long it really takes for paint to cure? Answer 1 year. The gooseneck guy! Cheers! New Exterior 2 1/2 STIFF Gooseneck coming soon for all your exterior surfaces! The NEW Stiff Gooseneck is designs to perform with all exterior paints.

Behr paint at 50 dollars a gallon to sherman Williams 90 to 100 dollars a gallon. I dont see the value in that paint. Im not saying its poor paint it is not. I just don't think its a 100 dollar a gallon paint. In fact i fount it scuffed just as bad as behr 50 dollar a gallon paint.
