Exposure - Poem by Wilfred Owen

Exposure is a war poem written by Wifred Owen which recounts the experience of suffering in the trenches by night, where icy winds and snow drifts were as dangerous as the enemy soldiers.

It focuses on the misery and desperation of the soldiers' experience of waiting for an attack. The repeated refrain 'But nothing happens.' is used by Owen to emphasise the sense of hopelessness and the agony of suffering in the trenches.

The poem features in AQA's GCSE literature power and conflict series; this reading could be used as an introduction for students studying it at GCSE or as a short revision recap to help gain an understanding and overview of the poem's message and meaning.
