It's so odd, I grew up in a house with loaded guns... by the door, under the couch, and the expensive hunting rifles in the safe. We had respect for firearms and the destructive force they are capable of. There was dialog in the household, at every meal we joined as a family and listened carefully to the adults that were structuring our lives. Gun culture was integral, and I never once as a child feared guns, or thought of using them against a neighbor or stranger. As a kid I had a lever action 22lr that I was allowed to keep in my room, I used it to hunt rabbits in the summer, I was proud of how I earned my parents trust, and my ability to hunt a meal. America is just different now I guess.
