Hi Tony, great video. This is the second one I've watched now and I'm already a fan. Good video, clear presentation, good visualisation, schematics, and last but not least: good voice. Nice to listen to in stead of other tutorial video's you can find online where the presenter has this annoying monotone voice and you fall asleep halfway the video.

Tony - I have a domain name and want some of it to be driven locally (like my-nas.domain.com returning a local 192.168.x.x address) while the rest is passed through to my public internet website (like webmail.domain.com or domain.com going to my hosting provider). I set up my Synology based on this video but it seems to assume that ALL *.domain.com addresses are local and times out when attempting to access the hosted subdomains. Any idea how to setup the DNS Server to pass through any DNS that doesn’t have an A record locally defined?

Nice and clear video Tony, I'm trying to setup MailPlus to store my personal mail archive using an internal domain which I have done but outlook is always complaining about the certificate not being verified. I have created a dns entry for the domain as you have shown and a certificate based on that domain but it doesn't seem to work, I am still getting the certificate prompt every time outlook loads. Can you create a video to show how to do this whole process correctly? Thanks!

Hi, I have a domain name issued by synology, a ddns type. It doesn't work for me. Should this also work for a ddns or just for top domain name?

Thanks Tony! My search LAN DNS resolving found you here. This method is very clear, but any computer would like to use hostname resolution needs to manually enter the NAS IP-adress(the DNS server) to its DNS server list. That's impossible for iphone or android device, or even from Syno NAS itself and its docker images. I don't know why some router has this function, some not. and exactly the headache is for people come with a router w/o this function built in router(e.g. 192.168.25.1), and how to solve this issue? thanks in advance!

Do you have to have DNS SERVER setup in order to be able to use MailPlus server? also do you have a how to video on how to setup MailPlus Server with a godaddy email domain name.
Sorry for the newbie questions. Am just trying to setup my synology 1517plus with an email domain using my included email licenses that came with my unit.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi Tony, I truly enjoyed your videos! I followed your tutorial about internal lan setup and I followed it to the letter but when I add an "A" record for the nas, I can't connect to it but the link to the router worked fine. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? thanks

I have a synology RT2600ac rounter, MR2200ac in mesh network. I have an client with the name CAR51. It shows up as 192.168.2.58 in the DHCP client list with the router at 192.168.2.1. The ping command fails. ping car51, car51.local, cart1.mydomain.com all fail. ping 192.168.2.58 works. How to fix this?

hello. this works in the internal network and not on the internet.
is a more friendly way to access your devices without ever remembering ip addresses...

Question: If the IP of a machine changes (happens a lot if you are on a DHCP environment), then you need to login back to NAS and change it. Is there a way to work around this problem?

Great vid Tony, really simple and clear, and that's a great skill to have. How should DNS Server be setup if we have two synology's in different offices, but same domain, but in each office there are devices that need a subdomain? do you set each synology DNS server to forward to the other, and then secondary on each is the external dns server? that way you only need to concern each dns server with it's local devices. In this case our offices connected with vpn.
