Could we survive prolonged space travel? - Lisa Nip

Prolonged space travel plays a severe toll on the human body: microgravity impairs muscle and bone growth, and high doses of radiation cause irreversible mutations. As we seriously consider the human species becoming space-faring, a big question stands: even if we do break free from Earth’s orbit, can we adapt to the extreme environments of space? Lisa Nip examines our odds.

I just learnt that our Earth protects us in so many ways, like the magnetic field which I thought was meant for limited purposes...
This is so beautiful, and makes me sad how we fail to see it and how we fail to protect our beautiful Earth

Maybe use these tools to end obesity rather than just make it socially acceptable..?

Dear Ted-Ed,
Please do a video on Hemophilia, it would be an interesting video with topics ranging from Superheros (like Wolvarine) to gene therapy to a fascinating royal history, and you guys would have the first official video on the subject on YouTube.
Please do consider.

I'm working on a way to fix these issues to as close as a negliigable point as possible, keep your eyes and ears open in the future for my breakthrough.

Good luck with that. Most people resist the idea of tinkering with DNA. That is as long as it's someone else that is suffering.

About the gravity. Can we not make a spaceship that turns like a centrifuge pushing the humans inside against the wall making a fake gravity?

I'm guessing the recent announcement and presentation by Elon Musk was one of the reason for producing this video

Q: Could we survive in space ?
A: Theoretically.

Gee, thanks...

All that extra weight in space would be a terrible idea. They'd never make the cut. Also... you get altitude sickness if you change altitudes too quickly, and don't adapt. Mountain peoples are better suited for this, but they're not magic.

This puts in other contexts the sports competitions: people living in differents zones have different adapted bodies which made them more or less prone to different sports.
