Dutch still life – a collection of some of the best paintings from 12 painters of the Dutch Golden Age (1600-1750). Голландский натюрморт (золотой век) - красивая подборка картин.
Nederlandse schilderkunst in de Gouden Eeuw – stillevens. 1080p.

Music: Willem de Fesch (1687 – 1761, Dutch composer and violinist) – Concerto No.5 in C Minor: I, IV, III. Musica ad Rhenum. Jed Wentz.

00:00 Willem van Aelst (1627-1683)
Willem van Aelst was one of the best still-life painters of the “Golden Age” of Dutch painting. His beautifully detailed and elegant compositions are filled with rich fabrics, fruit, flowers, hunting trophies and luxury objects.

02:02 Willem Kalf (1619-1993)
Willem Kalf's magnificent still life paintings vary little in their structure, and most of them feature the same objects: gold and silver vessels, many of which have been identified as work of specific goldsmiths, and Chinese porcelain bowls with fruit.

03:05 Pieter Claesz (1597-1660)
Pieter Claesz's principle aim was to render various materials and catch the reflected light as accurately as possible. This was his specialty.

03:30 Rachel Ruysch (1664-1750)
Rachel Ruysch specialized in flowers, inventing her own style and achieving international fame in her lifetime. In the 17th century the Dutch were very interested in flowers and gardening, so paintings that highlighted the beauty of nature were highly valued. In her lifetime her paintings were sold for prices as high as 750–1200 guilders. In comparison, Rembrandt rarely received more than 500 guilders for a painting in his lifetime.

04:04 Maria van Oosterwijck (1630-1693)
Maria van Oosterwijck was a Dutch Golden Age painter, specializing in richly detailed flower paintings and vanitas. Van Oosterwijck was deeply religious, and she often symbolically represented her beliefs in her paintings. The sunflower is symbolic of turning to God. The butterflies are also symbolic of Christ's resurrection. Her vanitas paintings incorporate objects intended to symbolize the ephemeral nature of life, such as skulls, hourglasses, books, globes, partially eaten food, bags of money, insects, wilted leaves, and flowers.

04:57 Samuel van Hoogstraten (1627-1678)
Dutch Golden Age painter, Samuel Dirksz van Hoogstraten, was also a poet and author on art theory. He wasn’t an exclusively still-life painter, but worked in different styles, including “perspective boxes” showing the interior of a typical Dutch house of his time. His “trompe l’oeil” (“fool the eye”) illusionistic painting is intended to deceive the viewer into thinking it is a real necessary-board stuffed with objects held by leather straps.

05:17 Jan Lievens (1607-1674)
Jan Lievens was a contemporary and, at some point, a collaborator of Rembrandt. He painted both portraits and history paintings. In his painting “Books with Pitcher, Glass and Bread”, Lievens offers a dramatic presentation of carelessly arranged books read so often that they are falling apart.

05:26 Adriaen Coorte (ca.1665 – after 1707)
Adriaen Coorte was a Dutch Golden Age painter. Coorte’s paintings consist primarily of high-quality, small-scale still lifes. He was almost entirely forgotten until 1950s. Since then, Coorte has become the most celebrated "rediscovered" Dutch Baroque painter. Testifying to Coorte's recent popularity is the 2014 Sotheby’s auction, in which a new price record for the artist was set at when a painting called “Three peaches on a stone ledge with a red admiral butterfly” sold for £3,444,500.

06:11 Jan Weenix (ca. 1641 – 1719)
Jan Weenix devoted himself to a variety of subjects, but his fame is chiefly due to his paintings of dead game and of hunting scenes. “Flowers on a Fountain with a Peacock” (Wallace) is one of the most spectacular paintings and an example of fine decorative style. Weenix displays his skill by combining a theatrical setting with fine details and integrating natural and architectural elements with dramatic lighting.

07:14 Jan Davidsz de Heem (1606 – 1684)
Jan Davidsz de Heem was one of the greatest painters of still life and a major representative in both Dutch and Flemish Baroque painting. He combined a brilliance and harmony of colour along with an accurate rendering of objects. He is best known for his ornate or sumptuous still lifes, the so-called “pronkstillevens”.

08:33 Willem Claesz Heda (ca. 1593 – ca. 1680)
Willem Claesz Heda is known for his innovation of the breakfast genre of still life painting. Heda’s compositions combine sophistication with simplicity and refinement.

09:18 Jan van Huysum (1682 – 1749)
Van Huysum specialised in flower still lifes. His bouquets included flowers from all seasons, arranged with elegance and seeming spontaneity in various states of bloom and demise. He often travelled to horticultural centres like Haarlem so he could make sketches of rare and unusual flowers. During his lifetime, his flower paintings were sold for as much as 2,000 guilders.
