Dyno Results: G37 Stock vs KN Panel Filter - Motorvate's Garage Ep. 1

Показать описание
In the first episode of Motorvate's DIY Garage we go to the dyno and find out if a K&N panel air filter makes more power than the stock paper air filter.

With a stock G37, we made two runs on the dyno, then we swapped in the K&N panel air filters and made two more runs.

Same day, same dyno, same operator, same gas, same car. The only difference is the K&N filter...

Finally a person who measures and doesn't believe any tales that float around.
Watched five vids about this topic and none of them presented any factual evidence. They all just talk about what they 'think' or 'believe'. Waste of time.

Thank you for doing it much better.

I don't understand all the hate this video is getting. do people not realize for spending $100 on 2 filters to gain 14 WHEEL hp is a fucking great deal. In most cases you're going to have to spend 5x-10x that amount on a catback to gain the same amount of hp. The whole idea behind this is just a comparison and I'm glad he posted it too.

This video convinced me to grab a pair of K&N filters for my G37 sedan. Maybe it's just a placebo effect but it does seem like the car has a bit more pep in its step in the mid-range power. I don't like to just hear "OMG buy this filter it'll make your car faster" but your video with real measurable results sold me on it. I think you made the right call on saying it's a worthy modification to do to your car. Thumbs up!

Since the G37 uses two intakes and two filters, switching to K&N probably makes more of a difference than most engines. But damn 14hp just from a filter swap? I'm lucky if I get that out of an expensive cat back exhaust.

What a beautifully linear power line, and a nice constand torque, amazing. That is part of the charm of a natulally aspirated engine.

I have both stock paper and K&N. Why do I have both? Bcz I use K&N and the days where I have to clean/dry/recoat oil/dry, but have to use my car, I would temporarily use paper filter for that day or two and then once my K&N filter is fully dry and ready to go, I will pop my K&N back in and keep my paper filter for nxt cleaning interval. I've cleaned my air filter 4 times, have roughly almost 200k miles. My paper filter is nearly as good as new still even till this day bcz I used it total of 5 days throughout 14 years.

The first thing I do to my vehicles from my Camaro to my Acura. K&N panel filter. It really brings the engine to life with a deeper breathing scream. Thanks for proving the performance gain, they are great value

Great Video man I have used K&N air filters for over 12 years never had an issue. People don't realize how great they flow when dirty, and they over clean them. They also don't realize how little oil K&N puts on them at the factory.

Just got myself a Q40, these videos have helped me make the right decision on modifying on a budget!

I thought it was common knowledge that KN air filter are less restrictive compared to stock. It's why the oil is needed, to catch the fine dust particles. I have one running in a 5.0 super charged V8 and I just did a clean and re-oil on mine to find not one bit i dust in the air tubes leading into the super charger had been let through. These air filters work if oil and maintained correctly.

You sir, are the car hero we all need. If K&N had any sense, they’d have you do a video for everyone of their top sellers

great vid, I'm putting mine in on my G35 Sedan tonight! Also at 7000rpm it looks like you gained 19hp

I have switched all my vehicles to K&N filters. They make a seat of the pants difference in my GM 8 cylinder engines.

Old video but this is insane! Thank you honestly. Been wanting the filters just didn't know if it was really worth it.

Top video! A fair comparison which seems to answer the age old question. This is better myth-busting than MCM!!! More power could probably got with a re-tune too :-)

I've watched several of your videos now. I don't have the know how or the tools to do most of the work you're doing but I just swapped my air dirty air filters with paper ones. Now I'm wondering if I should replace them with K&N. Thanks for your video. I'm amazed at how professional they are! Your camera angles and audio quality and even your video introduction. Very impressive!!!

It's the cleanliness that counts. Were you using a brand new paper filter?

It may not produce much HP gain, but it certainly allows more air into the engine whilst still providing excellent filtration.

An aftermarket filter only pays dividends on more highly tuned vehicles, that can benefit from more air into the engine.
On a standard vehicle you will see little return, other than the ability to clean and reuse the filter.
