Yes I know this is weeby as fuck but it was my favourite scene from Code Geass, Its the best anime series i've ever watched, Well thought out till the very end, I Highly recommend it to everyone, If your looking for anything to watch, make it Code Geass

Somethung i noticed is that everytime one of the girls kissed him, he barely moved, he just froze up. In this scene, he kissed her back.

-Erased his love memory and then lost her (shirley)
-Betrayed by his comrades(black knights)
-Betrayed by his best friend(suzaku)
-His sister lost hopes in him and called him "monster" (nunally)

And still acted like a villain and sacraficed himself for the better world

I just noticed this, but this is were he began to change from a world for nunally to a world for everyone. This was the first instance of him seeing a direct reaction/consequence of his actions, from someone he cares about

If it helps anyone feel better Shirley’s dad according to novelizations was actually a part of the Code R organization aka the group that was experimenting on CC at the beginning of the series...so yeah feel bad for Shirley losing her dad but remember like many people in the show he was actually a morally complex guy.

I remember how I used to think Shirley would just be a mildly amusing one sided fangirl for Lelouch with no relevance in the story or towards his wrong I was.

This was really emotional to even see Lelouch get stunned by her words.

It interesting here Shirley represents the human side of Lelouch not the man behind the mask-like zero. Because Shirley is the one who teaches Lelouch that love is power. One can argue that Nunally represents those things but she represents a sisterly kind of love. Shirley stands for love as a whole and was willing to join Lelouch 100% without any hesitation.

A detail I just noticed while rewatching this, towards the end at the 52 second mark it focuses on Lelouch's eye with his geass. "The power of the king will condem you to a life of solitude" some epic fucking foreshadowing right there

I sometimes think that given her realtivly less screen time.

It is easy to miss that SHIRLEY is Lelouch's main love interest. Kallen never amounts to anything more than a bodyguard during season 1 and then she abandons which is a BEAUTIFUL contrast with Shirley, who found out that Lelouch is Zero, but instead of abandoning him, she protects him. And it takes half of season 1 for Lelouch and C.C to start connecting and they are mostly best friends (That is the relationship C.C wants) that have each other's back through thick and thin .Granted it does not take away that he has romantic feelings for the two other women or that they feel something for him.

Shirley consistently is a moral support to Lelouch and she always manages to reach him emotionally. Lelouch had to use Geass to make Shirley stop loving him, and it barely worked, until it did not work anymore. Her death is what chippers away Lelouch weakening sanity even more.

The look of pure shock and regret on his face. The kiss was entirely sympathetic meaning he only kissed back because he felt terrible for what he did to her father.

i love this ship. it’s a perfectly heart-wrenching example of “right pairing, wrong time.” in a normal world, shirley and lelouch could’ve grown old together. they could’ve loved each other and died together. but this isn’t a normal world. no, it isn’t. lelouch had to set her aside for the war. he had to fight and strategize and logically think and force away his romantic life and potential relationship with her until their deaths. he had to kill and ended up killing the father of the that person. and she died. as a result of the very reason he set her aside: war. he had to pretend to care for rolo for the sake of winning the war. and what did that cost him? his potential lover’s life. it hurts to see how all that potential was shattered because of the very reason it was set aside.
