Actually you can. Differentiate the RHS logarithmically. It works out rather nicely; it's a lot less messy than applying the quotient rule.

Hehe - I notice nearly double the views for the "better approach" compared to the "flawed approach".  Paradoxically, I suspect exploring the flawed approach is at least as important for deep learning!
