Nightrider’s chorus with Jeff & Kelly’s “call and response” vocals is perhaps my favorite example of their vocal blend in the ELO catalog. Although it does seem they either boosted or double-tracked their chorus vocals in the studio in post-production here, and Kelly’s “singalong” with the outro riff (like at 3:25) was definitely added in post-production.

R.I.P. Kelly Groucutt who left us on 19 February 2009, aged 63, also R.I.P. Hugh McDowell who left us on 6 November 2018, aged 65.

Jeff didn’t give nearly enough credit to the band that produced the sound he wanted. He got the sound, the notoriety, and the band was paid in peanuts, and then tossed away like broken shells! Thank you to the definitive members, Kelly, Roy, Mik, Mike, Mike, Hugh, Melvyn, Bev, and Richard, and all others who were greatly under appreciated!

Yet another of my all time favorites on Midnight Special, ELO! Jeff of course is very distinctive in his vocals, but I believe Kelly was overlooked. What truly made Midnight Special such a standout is the wide array of genres they showcased. I truly love music, and Midnight Special was my my musical heart.
