Weightlifting keeps my stress, and thus drinking, in check.

I started lifting and taking it real serious before Christmas after I had a big amount of weight loss 65lbs. Now I love lifting more than ever and I want to become a personal trainer. I am autistic and this is the thing that helps me from having anxiety attacks. I spend most of my life in the gym now and love it. Beyond the gym I am looking at improving my life beyond just the gym but because of the gym I feel like a new person in so many ways. Whenever I break a new PR I feel so much better it is amazing. I try not put a label on what I do because I just want to focus on furthering myself in everything.

I plan on competing next year in a power lifting event.

My brother is an ex navy seal and he is someone that had always encouraged me to be stronger and better.

Weightlifting may not stop the tides of depression from beating against the shores of my mind, but it gives me a bigger rock to stand on to whether the storm. You can't control a lot of things in life, but on this rock, I am King.

I've struggled with food addiction and depression my entire life. I never ran a mile in my life (still haven't, but I have ran more than ever before), never worked out much longer than two weeks. ive been lifting for 6 months now. I still have times of emotional stress or breakdowns, but I am so much more CONSISTENTLY happy. I try to get everyone I know to get active, I feel better than ever.

Other than the usual Depression and Anxiety symptoms like other people that training helps me with, it helps me maintain a sense of focus. There's some amazing mental benefit in being able to set a long term goal, break down the steps you need to get there, then following the regime and ultimately seeing the results as you go along. It gives me a sense of purpose and a sense that I am in control of at least one aspect of my life when everything else seems to be swimming in chaos. When you can mentally latch onto at least one thing and control how it goes, the rest of the chaos tends to calm and fall in line.

Been training since january 2019 and so far the biggest change ive found is mental clarity. Not to mention the addiction i have to how my body has changed over the last 3 or so months. People are noticing the changes in both the way i look and act.

Another person here who loves powerlifting because of the mental health benefits and confidence. Whenever I get upset about work or life, I head to the gym. My new motto is "when in doubt, lift it out." I've learned to love my body as is instead of striving to be the thinnest person in the room. And damn it feels like a real accomplishment to be THE (?) strongest woman at my gym (or at least second) and probably stronger than most of the guys there too. I'm reminded that I can do lots of things with hard work and dedication.

This video is good and all, don't get me wrong. I liked and shared it and all that but what I REALLY need to know is

Exercise is my mental health medication. It literally saved my life. I was addicted to meth for a couple years. Went to prison (also not a great experience) but I got really into working out again. Been clean ever since. Great video James.

when i was 18 i worked as an apprentice in a kitchen. Being at the lowest rank in the kitchen hierarchy, i struggled, especially because i got a lot of responsibility early on in my career since we were a little bit understaffed. I was always yelled at, and talked down to, which not only made me think i was the worst cook ever, and that i had no potensial in this career, but i completely broke down mentally. On top of that i had no friends, or anything going for me, which made me pretty sad. I got so frustrated with myself, and decided that if i had no potensial in my current position, i might as well try to learn some new tricks, and try again somewhere else.

That is when i picked up my first book ever, starting strength by Mark Rippetoe, and then i branched out to never let go by Dan John, and so on. I finally found a sport i enjoy to practice in my free time, moreover, i finally felt like i could do something not everybody in the kitchen yelling at me daily could do. I finally found a slither of confidence, that i was desperately seeking. I just became 20 now, I'm still kind of a degenerate, but a more intelligent and fit one! At long last i had the balls to yell back at my boss and quit my job, that is when he told me that the reason they pushed me so hard was because they saw a lot of potensial in me, this made me tear up a bit on my last trip home from my job. Now i will continue studying training and dieting, and hopefully make a profession of it.

I was addicted to food and depressed. Now i am quite fit guy and it gives me lot of confidence. Literally the best feeling is when i come home at night after a nice workout, take a shower and eat my meal in my garden. Truely bliss

It's essentially the healthiest "crutch" I've ever leaned against.

I used to suffer from severe lower back pain that was cured when I physically worked my ass off.

Planking, push ups, pull ups, squats and controlled heavy lifting literally saves me every single day.

I only feel my lower back pain when I sit for a an hour or longer playing a video game, which happens almost never now, and wont again thanks to guys like Shredded Science and EDDF Alan. Plus my own motivation by seeing the 5% difference of improvement every week.

Life just feels brand new every morning now. Cheers to that !

Frankly training has saved my life. It helped me find another level of love for myself. It saddens me when people look at physical activity as a punishment instead of a way to empower themselves and add to the overall quality of life

Loss over 60lbs, reversed type 2 diabetes, controls stress. Wanted to keep up training with my son who was playing football in high school and whatever grandkids may come about. Training just gives you a whole new perspective on life!

Training has a variety of roles in the play that is life. Going heavy theatrical, I guess.

1) Stress reliever from a very demanding, but sedentary job as a business developer;
2) Overall health, fighting father time;
3) Conditioning and power edge every time I play my other passion (basketball);
4) Literally as a life balancing medicine (aside from work): injury prevention, posture correction and maintenance, transferable benefits (discipline, consistency, doing more).

But the most underappreciated lesson I have learnt by lifting daily is that, no matter the circumstances, it gives you an objective to meet even in your worst days. Sort like a climber that has his only meal at the peak and needs to reach the top regardless of the weather, be it a sunny day or a snowstorm. It keeps you honest and committed, and does not allow you to go overdepressed for other things.

Wow Shredded sports science I'm currently dealing with worst year of my life from everything that's my social and personal life. Exercise has really helped me from not becoming depressed. Every time I lift I feel complete happiness and forget about my struggles. Thanks for the video.
