Aaron, thanks for this great series. I am a veteran film fan and consider myself fairly knowledgeable on the subject, but yes, I did learn from your videos. You really inspired me to binge on New Hollywood movies. many I had seen before, but some I had never caught up with.

Phenomenal series. Discovered your channel because of your video on Le samourai (which made me completely see the film in a completely different way) and since I've only recently been interested in New Hollywood and am still making my entry in most of its filmmakers, when I started to watch these I was amazed by how nuanced and detailed and complete your observations and references were. There's just so much to pick up on, so I know I'll come back and hopefully retain more of it after seen more of the films you mention. If only I'd have to comment on something I may have missed or it's a bit of a surprise to me that it wasn't brought up (especially in this last video, as it concerns the cultural and political ethos) is the concept of postmodernism. I'm guessing that course it would've up broadened the discussion to some slippery grounds since there is so much and so different written about it as well, but I was wondering about your thoughts on its relevance and potential influence on film.

Again, thank you so much for this thoughtful and articulate work :)

Wonderful video. By the way, you say that Reagan's presidency was a high concept presidency. I understand that nostalgia for the 1950s was pervasive from the 70s going into the 80s. How big of a factor would you say Reagan's history as an actor in the 50s was in his popularity as a candidate and then president?

Finally made it to the end of this amazing series. Thank you for basically uploading an entire college course for free for anyone to watch. If I wasn't doing my MA thesis on post-WWII East Asian film history, I would be doing it on New Hollywood because its my next favorite period of cinema. This series got me into a lot of films and filmmakers that I wouldn't have known about otherwise.

What a great series! I've been binging it for the past few days and really enjoyed and was enlightened by your breakdown of crews and all the different aspects that control film production! Discovered a lot of new names like Polly Platt, Dede Allen, Verna Fields, Laszlo Kovacs. I felt your videos gave a really great examination of the concept of auteurism (which I always thought was a flawed concept when it came to Hollywood films, but I could never put it into words).
Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos!

I can tell you why and HOW Reagan got elected the first time (and why Democrats like my father voted for him): Because Jimmy Carter's presidency was widely seen as a failure. Carter was seen as weak and ineffectual, particularly in light of how he dealt with Iran in the wake of the hostage crisis. Also, what really angered people like my father and others was when Carter greenlighted and then aborted an ill-fated hostage rescue mission, which tragically culminated in a helicopter crash that ended up killing eight servicemen. That was widely viewed as yet another embarrassment, albeit a colossal one, in a presidency riddled with fiascos. And remember Carter, a somewhat obscure Southern politician, only defeated Ford because of two things: Ford's pardon of Nixon, seen as unforgiveable by many Americans; and Carter was a Democrat and Americans wanted a fresh break from Republicans.

What a great series of videos about my favourite period in cinema history. So many superb films made in the late 60s and early 70s-do you have any particular favourites Aaron? Mine are Nashville, Five Easy Pieces and The Long Goodbye.
Would you count Goodbye Columbus, The Swimmer or Phantom Of The Paradise as New Hollywood films?
