If I have understood everything correctly, only one aspect of Usenet is considered here, namely the possibility of file sharing, but not the basic idea behind Usenet, the discussion tool.

Since different programmes are obviously used for this .... I would appreciate a presumably short introduction, including the tools for searching for interesting files

And you need to be careful about what you download, you'll might find a lot of files which contain malware / viruses.

The good old days of flame wars. Usenet was not for the airheads; if you asked stupid questions, your reward could be thousands of nasty replies. I would not download from Usenet due to the possibility of malware. I used my Amiga 1000 to download a good chunk of Usenet feed via UUCP to a 20 meg hhd; yes, 20 megs was a lot then 😂😂😂. Amiga users used to pick a good flame war with Mac users 😂😂😂. By the way, these wars were primarily done respectfully and with facts. I might have to look at Usenet now that I am retired. We had a full feed from '84 onwards at my work. It was actually really valuable for unix tech exchange q/a, but also very fun to read and try to figure out what it meant.
