Omg thanks sooo much!!! I'm a new nurse and never had clinicals to practice anything 😱😱😱😱 I struggle priming iv lines 😅 to avoid running dry I was changing the amount of fluids from 1000ml to 945ml🙈🙈🙈

That’s the exact way I learned how to do it during ED clinicals. I even showed other nurses the trick during my preceptorship

Cool technique! I never get air in my lines so maybe I won’t use this but still very cool

my preceptor calls it "burping the bag", definitely never saw this in nursing school

And remember, when you spike your line, the easiest way to avoid puncturing the bag is to lay the bag on a flat surface (like your cart) & then spike the IV bag so you're not spiking it at an angle.

Can this be done when priming secondary lines? Or just back prime?

The only thing with this method is that it makes it very hard to accurately read how much fluid has gone in when you are doing volumes less than the full liter.

I tried this and the fluid barely went into the chamber so it was a fail for me 😢
