For homes not connected to a public wastewater system, a septic tank may be a good option for treating wastewater. But how does a septic tank handle both solid and liquid waste?

If you take a packaage of dry yeast and add it to warm(not hot) water and let it sit a short time. Then flush it down the toilet. The yeast will eat the solids (not the grease). Had a family of 5 live in a house for 40 years. The only time it was pumped was for the sale of the house. Yeast works and is cheaper than Ridex.

For optimal performance, this system should be activated by filling the tank to 75% capacity with raw water. This mechanism is utilized in the grease trap within our wastewater system. For the domestic Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), we employ a horizontal chamber system that immediately separates solid particles from the effluent, allowing them to dry within the system. These solids are then digested by aerobic bacteria within the system. The STP system is designed to prevent overflow and requires minimal maintenance, as it does not retain accumulated solids.

I've always called it a "Weeper/Weeping Bed"

Do all systems bleed out to a disposal field? Or are some isolated?

The question I have is if most septic tanks are built like this then what the hell kind of septic tank do I have? I have three tanks one collects most of the black sludge and two are constantly filled with water but the one thing I can’t figure out is why would my septic system have that many tankswhen the only thing in my house that goes to the septic system is the toilet and the shower everything else is gray watered or pumped into the leach field
