If you are interested in this type of art I would recommend looking at pour panting techniques as cheap acrylics are not ment to dry that thick with out additives.

I do something like this too

I put down a layer of shaving cream on cardboard(not too thick, not too thin)
Using food dye I let a few drops fall
With a toothpick, skewer, stick or popsicle stick, I swirl the food dye around
Place a paper (it should be a little thick) on top and press down carefully, pick it up and scrape off the shaving cream with another piece of cardboard
Step back and enjoy your creation!
