I had one of those ‘66 tri- powered 442s and boy did it run! It was the four speed holiday coupe, autumn bronze with black vinyl top and bronze interior . Sure miss her today.

I owned car #8 of the 54 produced 1966 Olds W-30's. Post coupe, black pained top and Sierra Mist lower body. Fawn interior. With slicks and headers, ran best of 11.86 @ 116+ mph at Carlsbad Raceway in Carlsbad, CA. The car is now in the REO/Oldsmobile Transportation Museum in Lansing, MI.

In '66 I was driving a 427/425 Corvette. The only thing that bothered me was running into a Cobra. Never saw one. I didn't run it on the track but road tests in the day put its 1/4 mile time in the 12 second bracket. It was a beast. I ordered it with off road exhaust (drove cops crazy) and knock off aluminum wheels. Wish I still had it.

Those Ford R code 427s were something.

My friend and I took a 455 out of a Buick Electra, and put it in his '64 Skylark and put dual exhaust on it. It would just smoke the heck out of the tires, if you didn't feather the gas pedal, and it was really quick.

Have you ever ridden in a 1966 Ford Fairlane with a 425 hp 427 2x4 solid lifter car. That is a brutal SOB.

Back in 1970, my high school buddy bought a 1966 442. We used to drive around Orange County (CA) looking for anyone interested in a street race. We thought we were the fastest car on the road. Then one day a 69 Mach 1 Cobra 428 pulled up beside us at the light. Our hearts started thumping. We knew we were in trouble. Our only hope was that the Mustang driver missed a shift or something. Well, the Mustang won but not by as much as we expected. In order to keep up, my buddy kept it in 3rd gear for too long and over-revved the engine. The engine was severely damaged. Push rods were bent due to a floating valve train and rod bearings were spun. The engine made a lot of horrible knocking sounds after we shut down. Until that race, we were undefeated.

According to a YouTube video, Motor Trend tested a 1963 Studebaker Avanti with a R2 supercharged engine in July 1962 and found that it could go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8 seconds. The car could also reach 100 miles per hour in 12 seconds after reaching 60 miles per hour. Powered by a supercharged 4.7-liter V8 engine rated at 289 horsepower, the Avanti could reach a top speed of 178 mph (286 kph), a figure that made it the world's fastest production car upon its introduction. Yes, that was more than a Ferrari 250 GTO was capable of at 174 mph

I bought a 1969 nova new, 327/ 325 up four speed, immediately changed the intake and carb to the one for a 350 hp engine, that made the engine same as the 350 hp, 327, boy did that make it come alive, it ran 14'3 at the race track with a 373 posi !

I grew up in a small town dominated by hot Chevys. At least until one guy got hold of a 427 R code Fairlane. No one wanted to challenge that car.

In 1966 I was out there every night street racing and the 375hp/396 Chevelle was the king. Nothing out there could come close except for the Impala 425hp/427.

Not a muscle car, but the 1966 full size Chevy with the 425 horsepower 427 was a beast. The 1966 Cyclone GT test car was a heavily tweaked and modified car. It was far from stock. The test car had non-standard 4.11 gears with a Detroit Locker. The 1966 Cyclone GT did come standard with a fiberglass hood though.

These performance numbers are pretty honest... I've seen a lot car claims videos and it was rare for these cars to do better than we see here. I grew up with these cars. a 427 Vette, stock, had a hard time breaking 14's 1/4mi. Ken Miles got a 12.8 in one prepared for Car and Driver. I own all those C&D, SCG, R&T mags from 1960 ish to early 70's.

I owned that blue over white 1966 W30 (8:43 into the vid) from 1970 to 1975 and drag raced it. I bought it from the 2nd owner who purchased it in 1968. He street raced it and I remember riding shotgun with him while he beat a Hemi R/T like a rented mule. The car has been restored and is now in Georgia. It sold at Mecum Indy in 2017 for $92500. It was the #16 factory car of 54 built in 1966.

My grandma ordered a 1966 impala SS with a 327 with a 2 speed power glide transmission. It was $2, 800 ordered and sold it in 94 for $4, 500 dollars biggest mistake I ever made not buying it from my grandma. $20, 000 to $30, 000 dollars easy in today’s money it had 30, 000 actual miles and looked brand new inside. White on black!
