Nice! What many people don't realize is making the other guy miss is just as important as hitting him in the boxing game. Blocking should only be incorporated with slips (head movement) with either rock and roll, bob and weave, or ducking out. I love parries for counter striking off jabs, and misdirecting uppercuts.

Good kick-boxing technique for dealing with punches while standing directly in front of your opponent.

I remember my first MMA class. A 4'6 tall girl was my kickboxing partner and I came from a kung fu background. I parried her punch to the body with my hand, and she socked me right in the face like the noob I was lmao.

Now after some time and study, I know better, but still, this is a great drill to bring to practice, thank y'all so much!

This was a really cool video. I was wondering how you parry body shots.

Yup in jkd just blocking is a last resort, if you're just defending you're losing. A defensive offense paired with, evasion, footwork, redirection, etc

Just like Bruce Lee wrote in the Tao, parrying with the hands at chin level and keeping your elbows in close, ready to block bodyshots. Very cool

Majid is a lot taller and bigger than I thought. For some reason I always thought he was more or less Brian's stature.

Great stuff, per usual.

Very dynamic camera work this time, who's back there? That Anton? Jesse? Megan? One of the kids? Mike? John?
omg i've watched a lot of TMG

Tha ks for sharing.. Ed Parker said a block stops the action, a parry redirects the action.

How does this integrate with the Muay Thai guard? Is there a difference? The way it was explained to me was that the Muay Thai guard is really wide to defend body kicks. Does the guard change at different ranges? Or is it always like that?

Blocking straights is passive, don’t think blocking hooks is passive tho! It’s actually really easy to counter a hook with a good block because you throw you punch with the same hand that’s blocking right down the pipe since there’s more room with them throwing a hook you can get inside faster than they can get there hands back to block/perry which leaves what I think is the last option and that’s head movement even tho you should be moving your head regardless of all else fails and you’re moving your head it’s your last defense

I laughed when he accidentally got hit while teaching defense

A parry is a block. You boy called a “cover” a block. English is his second language.

Still good basics.

The cross parry is saved for the advanced striker and an advanced set up.
