David was the first book I ever picked out and read by myself for a book report. I was overwhelmed by and connected to him through his story. It made a lasting impression on me, I have thought of him often through the years, I was only three years older than him, I read the book when I was 9, and he is still in my thoughts at 47. I was thrilled to see him become an inspirational artist and change his name to distance himself from that evil SOB, and achieve such a positive attitude after the horror he survived. I was sad to learn of his passing, what an amazing soul we were privileged to bear witness to. The generosity of him and his mother to share his story allowing us to share in his trauma and triumph. He touched so many. Thank you Dave Dave! You will be missed, RIP.

He had to be scrubbed with stiff bristle brushes to remove any dead skin for years. Every surgery was a different painful procedure to another part of his body. The fact he didn’t lose his mind says so much about his desire for life. Rip Dave Dave you still are a hero to so many people and always will be.
