Steam Shmup Fest: Official Trailer

From September 25th through October 2nd, Steam SHMUP Fest will have an entire week full of discounts and demos celebrating shoot 'em ups, twin-stick shooters, and bullet hell games.

We're not talking first person shooters here: inspired by the chaos of old arcade shooters, these games feature power-ups, lots of enemies, and more bullets than can be counted.

None of these are shmups though. Maybe they borrow stuff from the genre but they are primarily a different genre.

I don't see a whole lot of actual shmups in that preview. BTW, you guys ruined the shoot em up and bullet hell tags a while back by including a ton of games from other genres that have nothing to do with shoot em ups.

Not a single cave shooter in the gameplay showcase of this, that's just rude they basically invented the bullet hell and near on perfected it within barely a decade.

Was so pumped to see Steam paying tribute to my all-time favorite genre. Then I watched the video and now I feel sad to see that they don't even include one single shmup in the video. Why not just call it Shooter Fest? Why call it what it simply isn't? Why make shmup-fans disappointed?

LoL. I saw railshooters, twin stick shooters and even a run n gun game, but not a single traditional horizontal or vertical shmup. How can you do a Shmup Fest without showing at least a little bit of DoDonPachi Resurrection, Mushihimesama or Crimzon Clover? 🤣

I was hoping this event might show more love to the venerable genre.

Was excited to see this trailer pop up then I don't see a single shmup. It's so weird cause they could have just called it shooter fest and been general but they used a very specific term that means a very specific thing. Fail

If you're like everyone and missing a real Star Fox game, Ex-Zodiac is the closest thing you can get. It's still in Early Access, but even when I played it a year ago, it was a ton of fun. It also had bonus modes that are like Space Harrier if you're ancient enough to remember that.
