When I think of Shmups I usually think of shoot em ups where you control a small spacecraft vs a horde of enemies on top-down or side-scrolling levels... like Gradius, R-Type etc.

You definitely need to check out Laboratory X-29 demo. It's like chaotic souls experience, but top-down shooter) Also give a try to Blazing beaks, it's funny)

I have tried the demos of Odinfall, Minishoot' Adventures and Galactic Glitch, and they are all great. Memory Lost looks great; there has been a decent amount of indie games (mostly demos of upcoming games) about transforming into the enemies you kill or possessing them, being able to use their abilities, and I am enjoying them.
Also, not too much into shoot 'em up, but might go for Against Great Darkness because it's a roguelite.

Schism looks weird AF but still pretty intriguing. ∀stralbringer looks AWESOME. I got most of the rest on my list from seeing them on your other videos (including Odinfall).

Stel - 1-bit vertical spaceship shooter hits a good vibe for sure. "$1 To Continue !!" would a neat touch upon death...

Iron Dungeon - Looks fun even if it's questionable if it's a real "Shoot'Em-Up!" or not? I like the "Run & Gun" genre eg Metal Slug so wonder if more games might come out like and be added to this genre? Or the old Cannon Fodder style games were solid shooting fun too.

Good initiative by Steam to showcase specific games from genres! Maybe they'll do more Fests for more genres?

it is frustrating how everything was pushed into the shmup genre, but this list helps.

Side question, i see some titles in “coming soon.” Does that mean they will come out? I’m watching and waiting for wind runners
