Did you happen to notice that most of the ships’ hull always colored red? It is not easy to spot, since the red part of these ships are always below the water. Anyway, what is the reason behind this? And what is actually the function of the paint?

Hello everyone, welcome back to Military TV. In today’s episode, we are going to discuss the reason why most of the ships’ lower part painted red. If you eager to learn more, don’t go anywhere and stay tuned.

Centuries ago, early sailing ships were made from wooden. Since wood is an organic material, it had a porous structure. Combined with its slow speed and rough hull, it proved to be an ideal breeding space for underwater marine life—seaweeds, worms, barnacles, and algae. Because of this condition, the ship needed some kind of protection to prevent barnacles and wood-eating worms eat away the ship’s lower part which sits under the waterline.

The Royal Navy First used Bitumen to cover the hulls of early ships, noticing a different in speed, they also noticed even more of a different in speed when the they began asking for copper sheets to cover over the wooden beams that make up the Hull of their ships, it helped with decreasing drag even further, allowing for a faster smoother sail through the High Seas giving the RN and advantage over its near pier threats such as France and Spain, faster ships, faster attacks, quicker ramming speeds too if necessary, it also helped against any enemies drilling through the hull in one man subs which stopping them attaching explosives to the bottom of British ships during the War of 1812, (June 18, 1812–February 17, 1815).
The War of 1812 (1812-1815)
The conflict fought between the United States and Great Britain over British violations of U.S. maritime rights. It ended with the exchange of ratifications of the Treaty of Ghent.
