If you were going to show the tray going down and the tiles going on top you really should have tanked it before tiling. Then even when the silicone seal perishes water will not leak out of the tray and will not cause damage to the property and would not be covered by insurance. Thankyou.

There are a couple major defects in this installation. A) Tiling directly onto what looks like some sort of boarding which looks timber based like MDF. British Standards now demand that a shower enclosure must be “tanked” which means either using backer or cement boards where the joints are properly sealed OR using a proprietary waterproof membrane where similarly joints must be sealed with the appropriate method OR some kind of liquid membrane that can be applied by brush. Tiles are waterproof but microscopic gaps appear in joints particularly in corners through differential expansion and contraction, especially with sudden temperature changes. Water will capillary action ooze through making backing wood damp and over the years this can rot and a few years down the line, well rotten timberwork, mould needing a complete rebuild of the affected area. B) The other major defect is relying on a silicone sealant only between the tray and the tiles. A far bettor solution is to use a proprietary system which is not cheap. One of these consist of a plastic strip that is fastened onto the tiles or but behind them and another strip that is fastened onto the tray. The overlap allowing differential movement. The other type consists of a rubber type of strip that is glued onto the wall prior to tiling and the other half gets glued onto the tray thus allowing small differential movements to take place.

As shower trays are not exactly the same size, instead of saying measure 15mm in from the edge, why not tell us the exact distance form the back wall to each upright channel. I fitted one this week and its a good job I didnt do as they said. I would have had big gaps in the profile.

They're very lucky they have a huge open space to work infor the assembly, not often the case🙄

It could be that if this is an installation done as a display in a showroom rather than an actual installation in a house then clearly my comments about tanking are not relevant. However the commentary at the beginning should have pointed that out or the video should have started from the point at which the tiles and the tray are already installed
