AMD's Raven Ridge 2400G and 2200G APUs are finally here. They combine a slightly updated Zen architecture with Vega graphics to create what should be an amazing new processor. But does that combo mean good gaming performance? Let's check that out by running some benchmarks with some of today's most popular games.

This is an amazing deal, the 2200G is a quad core processor with a decent gpu for just 99 bucks, that's amazing, it performs better than the r3 1200 even though it costs even less and has a gpu included in the box

This is the best budget cpu out rn even if you plan on getting a dedicated gpu with it, it's the cheapest quad core available and has a gpu comparable to a gt 1030

I'm glad AMD finally has something that can be used in a business setting -- I rarely deploy workstations with discrete graphics, so it's great that I'm not stuck using just Intel anymore

These APUs sound awesome. Hopefully we'll start to see them in budget laptops soon

My plan is to get a high end MB and RAM and a 2400G. Later when GPU prices come down, I will get a good graphics card. Finally I will be replacing the 2400G with whichever CPU will be at the tail end of AM4.

I think that would get me the best system at the lowest cost.

With these Apus cheap 1080p Freesync monitors offer a really good value proposition compare to Intel/nvidia combo.

Eber ... Thank you for the your thorough comprehensive review. I have a home DIY PC upgrade coming up in a couple of months and you gave me a few things to think about. My needs are quite modest so these APUs may be just the ticket. Upgrading an AMD Athlon II X2 250, 4 GB, GeForce GT 630... so obviously I am not a super heavy gamer, just want solid improvements and a nice solid step up in graphics performance.

For fucks sake. The title should be 'Gaming without a *Graphics card* ' not 'without a _GPU_ ' because a GPU is exactly what's in this fucking CPU

Believe the hype! Recently built one for a friend of mine who was still running my old AMD Phenom II based build. Some 8+ years old. We picked up an MSI Tomahawk Plus Motherboard, GeiL 2400 8GB Kit of ram & the 2200G for around 300 out the door. We kept his Samsung SSD, 500GB Drive, PSU and Case. Doom @ 1080p, Low Settings about 45 fps, very playable and several other titles, we were just blown away. Street Fighter 5.. 60fps though at 720p. Look, here is the bottom line. If you are looking to build a system on a shoestring budget like this you are going into this with those expectations already. But with those expectations lowered... you'll be amazed at home nuch gaming you can actually do. It's Legit!

Discrete gpus will always be a better option on desktops right now. But in Notebooks this is actually amazing, especially ultrabooks.

I always thought about this but never tried it or see it done. Great Work

I don't get people's obsession with high and ultra settings, the 2200G with 8gb at 2400Mhz is enough for medium games at around 50fps which is enough for an average gamer, unless you're considered a "Great" gamer you won't need a pc that costs over $750... to be honest well optimised games won't even look different in low to high settings....

Then again *Pcpartpicker, makes $5, 000 pc* that'll do... *plays Minecraft at lowest settings*

The GPU doesn't need to use 2gb of ram. If you set it to a low value such as the stock 500mb or even lower, such 64mb, it will use system memory as it needs. There is no need to reserve a large amount of the system memory. Set it to reserve 64mb and pair it with an 8gb kit. Also there's no GTX 1040.

I've been pretty sold on the idea of APUs for decent price/performance PCs for a while now! The new Ryzen units just take it a step further! My brother has an A8-based system that he was able to run Shadow of Mordor on with no problems, granted not at ultra settings, but the whole laptop only cost him $250! I'll be seriously considering putting together a Ryzen-based system in the near future as a first step towards building a really capable gaming PC!

It's a bummer you didn't get your hands on 1040. You should've tried 1030, it might have been a good low end GPU to try.

THANK YOU FOR BENCHMARKING RAINBOW SIX
More channels should start benchmarking this game as its one of the fastest growning competitive games in the market right now,

Valid point at the end. Seeing how consumer computer manufacturers use these APUs could introduce an affordable entry to pc gaming.

It'll cool if apu's integrated gpu and cheap discrete gpu (like gtx1030) could be paired & share resources to improve performance...
