I will always defend Cher winning for 'Moonstruck' - the character Loretta Castorinnin is something so different from what Cher is, and it was different from what she had shown in other films or during the 70s on television, and was the perfect slap at the Academy.
Not to mention that year in 1988, Glenn Close was not nominated for the BAFTAs (while Cher was), nor was she the favorite in the Drama category at the Golden Globes - having lost to Sally Kirkland with "Anna", while Cher won in the Comedy category.
NOW - "The Wife" in 2018 would have been the right Oscar for Glenn Close and I AGREE it's shameful that she still doesn't have an Oscar.

Glenn should've won for The World According to Garp, Fatal Attraction & The Wife. Jessica Lange wasn't even the best female of Tootsie, that goes to Teri Garr. Cher won because she was in three hit movies in 1987 & had a hit album. The Wife was overlooked & should've received more recognition for the other cast members especially Jonathan Pryce & Christian Slater. The script should've been recognized for Best Screenplay. Had The Wife received more notice Glenn would've had a better chance.

My god she soo should've won for either FA or ESP The Wife!! (hands over face) how much the earth shook that night when she did NOT end up winning in '19 after winning basically every other major pre curser award (GG- Drama, SAG etc..) tons of momentum, great speeches & campaigning, masses rooting for her & absolutely should've been the *overdue narrative. 'Word' is ended up a super messy voting process esp between the domestic vs foreign voters. Gaga took votes at Glenn's expense but the foreign voters were more in unison with Olivia. But to this day 6 yrs later will do down as 1 of the biggest d*ck moves lol. Woman is almost 78. *Why haven't they (at least) given her an honorary!??

I waited on her and she was the the worst...she was drunk and her husband was asleep next to her, like this was a regular occurrence.
