US President-elect Donald Trump is doubling down on his threat to impose a 25 per cent tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico.

Officials from Canada are fighting back, threatening to cut off some US imports.

“We’re going to use every tool in our toolbox to defend Ontarians and Canadians across the border,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said.

lol Canada needs the USA not the other way around. One state in the USA has more people than all of Canada. Canada is a pretty small market compared to the USA

Didn't Trudeau learn anything from his Dad about what tarrifs can do to a country?

Learn to speak Trump. 25% tariffs translates as "you are treating the US badly. Fix it and no tariff. Don't fix it 25% tariff. Your choice.

I am more interested in why canada refused in working together to secure the border.
The solution to the tariffs is mutually beneficial to both side.

"60% of American crude oil imports come from Canada"? Not true. The US is the largest producer of Crude oil in the world with 14 million barrels per day. The oil coming into the US is tar sand oil and US refineries are paid to refine it, because Canada doesn't have the capability to refine this thick stuff. It's pipelined and trained to Houston Texas where some of it's refined and some of it put on ships to the UK and other countries. I think some is also shipped to Minnesota and Indiana to be refined. It's expensive to refine the tar sand oil and costs 60 dollars a barrel, whereas normal crude costs 4 dollars a barrel to refine. If they are selling this oil to refineries, they would have to be selling it dirt cheap due to the cost of refining. Oil is 70 a barrel right now and the cost to refine this is 60. If oil prices drop, it's game over for Canada's oil. Canada has some refineries that refine normal crude oil, and they actually buy oil from the US.

What's so difficult to do what's right? Clean up boarder problems, eliminate drugs, cartels, human trafficking. Trump is asking for what should have been done along time ago. Canada needs to do right and amend the criminal code to eliminate drugs in the country and all tied too it.
