So that explains why I always sleep horrifically when I'm not in my own bed!! I always thought it was just me being picky or just weird (I sleep in the same dent in my mattress in the same position so sleeping anywhere else is a challenge)

As a human who has been sleep deprived since at least childhood, I promise most of us know when we are deprived, but the longer you're in sleep debt the more normal the reduced function becomes.

Quick story Ali:
Back in 2012, after watching the ladies bike into London for the Olympics I realized I missed having a drop bar road bike from when I was a kid. A week later I had an entry level Specialized Allez. Two weeks after that I was commuting 15 miles round trip to work occasionally.

Fast forward 3 years and I had a company sending me overseas for a job, and I learned that you can check a bicycle onto an airplane for usually no extra cost! What I also learned was taking your bike helmet with you onto an airplane into your window seat works as the best airplane pillow I've ever had. I might have looked stupid wearing a bike helmet on a plane, but at the same time I slept MOST of the flight from London to Cape Town South Africa. I would absolutely do it again even if I didn't have my bicycle on the aircraft, I would definitely take my bike helmet if I wanted to sleep on an airplane, it was the best sleep I ever got on a plane.

Also, you can't just post someone else's pictures of you with Xyla Foxlin and then not mention you two got to hang out. The only reason I know you exist, watch your videos, and wear Xero shoes is because you were on with Sean "Day 9" Plott once. I should go back and watch that MTG game you played.

Hey,
I feel like the change of hotel rooms was actually a goo thing, cause the first night after the flight was a bit messed up by the fact that you slept (or didn't sleep) in the the air before.
That evened out the scales again.

I've been listening to the Hubermanlab series on sleep and it's been a (pardon the pun) eye-opener.
The travel effect on your glucose control is crazy - no wonder you felt so off.

If someone were only going to get one of your monitoring gadgets, which should they get? Would love a video explaining what each records, how highly you recommend it, and other helpful information!

Worth noting that some of the sleep tracking is just based on movement, and even if you were flat in 1st class, the natural bounce of an aircraft likely messes with the sensors. That said, one wobbly data point doesn't invalidate the other stuff.

Supposed if we traveled slowly like before flight we would feel better maybe I think the body is very adaptable great vid thanks.

As an insomniac that’s developed into sleep anxiety over the decades during a particularly bad spell (weeks without proper sleep) i find travel a great way to reset my brain TO sleep 😂

I don’t sleep well at all I’m always exhausted but if I fly to the us it’s about 9.5 I feel like the floor is moving for about 3 days after 🤦‍♀️

I mean the results aren't that surprising for the first night. It's a new location or at least a new bed that you have to get used to I guess (if you're staying in the same place). I do find for myself that usually the second night and onward is much better, and why I almost prefer to try to stay in the same place if I can versus moving around a lot to different hotels, but sometimes thats unavoidable.
