Have you heard of the new Stingray device cops are using? These are tracking devices that allow police to do surveillance through cell phone towers. In simple terms, they transmit information from the phones connected to a particular cell phone tower.

According to the ACLU, 75 agencies in 27 states use stingrays. And, only some states have mandated that police need warrants to use them. Scary, right?

This is what a police state looks like, folks. Question is, what are you going to do about it?

Seems like a violation of 4th Amendment on a mass level

In other words it's a warrantless search.

If you are talking about it now, they've been doing it for fifteen years.

The NSA and CIA has this capability to do this but they are not supposed to be allowing this equipment to be used by local police officers.

Enemies of Humanity. Thus always to tyrants!

That sounds unconstitutional as an unreasonable search of everyone's cell phone in the area.

There supposed to have a warrant to use this device but we all know how well cops follow the laws they get paid to uphold

Hailstorm is replacing Stingray II. Don't ever discuss your case with your attorney using your cellphone. In person only.

Ummm, remember Snowden. Yea, he told us they were always listening

Easy to counter this, the use of encryption methods to place voice over ip instead of using cellular for data packet processing. I’m pretty sure organized parties would use cellular only for the transport layer which can be encrypted making it impossible for LE to break. Apple iPhones already give option to place calls via web - all you need then is a VPN.

Had to add this- with Starlink and future communications Software Defined Networks, cellphones will connect directly to the satellite instead of needing a tower making the stingray obsolete.

It's like trying to catch **ONE SPECIFIC FISH** by throwing out a commercial trawling net. You catch 50, 000 fish... And MAYBE the one you want.

Legality isn't the question we should be posing. Rather, why do citizens of a "free" nation tolerate it? We've gotten too comfortable conflating legal with moral.

That's why people use burner phones.

This is very much a breach of our rights to privacy, and idk how tf they think they can justify this in court. It should be a form of illegal search and seizure.

i honestly think this has happened to me before. Phone was super slow and glitchy for no reason.

Seems like they need a warrant to probe phones and seems like a constitutional violation of rights

There needs to be a law against this! They don’t have to get a warrant to listen to your phone calls? That should be illegal
