Steam Punk is Sci-Fi in my opinion. Isaac Asomov said "Science fiction can be defined as that branch of literature which deals with the reaction of human beings to changes in science and technology." Regardless of the fictional world in which it is set the focus is based on technology. Steam Punk is to me an alternate world in which steam powered engenering lived up to its expectations of being the future of society. It still deals with people respoding to science and technology. As teh focus is on science and tech it still has to be Sci-Fi.

I own merchant of venus but have not played it yet. TBH the setup and rules are a little daunting. I love the sci-fi theme and keen to see some of these games you recommended hit my own table. There are some good looking games here I have not come across before.

Some of my favorite SciFi board games would be Firefly the Game, Star Trek Fleet Captains, Space Hulk, Battleship Galaxies and for more miniature based games > Battletech, Star Wars Armada, Battlefleet Gothic and Star Wars X-Wing

Sci-fi doesn't go out of date. Frankenstein is still sci-fi and is the granddaddy of sci-fi.

Steam punk is historical sci fi. Alex can use dastardly dirigibles on both lists. How about top ten list of board games based on books/movies/TV series?

Bill and Ted is most definitely sci-fi. Time travel IS sci-fi. And if you remove the time travel element from the story, the story does not exist. It is def sci-fi for that reason.
