Jesus Calls Matthew‬ the Tax Collector: Gospel of Matthew 9:9-13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬.

I sliced these two scenes together from the Chosen season 1, episode 7, ‘Invitations’ and episode 8, ‘I Am He’.

I love the scene when Gaius (Kirk B. R. Woller) tries to stop Matthew (Paras Patel) from joining Jesus (Jonathan Roumie), Gaius reminds Matthew of all his worldly treasures, “You have money, Quintus protects you (power), no Jew lives as good as you… you’re gonna throw it all away?” Which Matthew simply replies, “Yes!” We can all learn so much from Matthew, there is nothing wrong with living comfortably, God Blesses us with with many Spiritual Blessings and Grace, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,” (Eph. 1:3 ESV).

Though we must be willing to to give up our worldly treasures and comforts for the sake of the Gospel, and to follow Jesus, “with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30 ESV). As Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matt. 6:19-21 ESV).

“Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.”
- Proverbs 16:20 ESV

Matthew the Tax Collector.

Matthew‬ ‭9:9-13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
9. As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.
10. Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples.
11. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12. When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.
13. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Folks, if you enjoyed this video (scene from ‘The CHOSEN’ S2.), please check out The CHOSEN’s app from your app stores, where you can watch the entire two series for FREE. I promise you will not be disappointed. 👍

The CHOSEN is the first entirely crowd-funded media project and is a fantastic series. I love seeing the scriptures and the stories of Jesus and his disciples brought to life in each episode, and I find that after watching episodes I desire to read my bible more (not that I should need a reason too.) 😊

Also, if you’re interested, check out the playlist on my channel, ‘Scripture Brought to Life’, for more videos like this, with scripture reading edited in with scenes from The CHOSEN and other Christian media projects. I make these videos because I love reading the text and then seeing it all acted out on screen, and I am grateful that others are enjoying the videos as well. God bless. ✝️❤️

I absolutely love how Jesus answers all three questions at once.
"You want me to join you?"
"Do you have any idea what this guy has done?"
Do you even know him?"

"Yes."

Jesus is amazing! That’s how he is with us he called us out of the world and told us to follow him. Some of us left everything to follow Jesus others have denied him. Nonetheless Jesus is amazing

Everyone look at Matthew with contempt. No one accept him. And Jesus came, looked at him with eyes, like no one, in his hole life… Amazing
Take a look on Caravaggio paint about Matthew.

I love how Yussif starts out as a regular "I'm shocked! SHOCKED!" type Pharisee...and as he learns more, and opens himself to Jesus's words, he's now the Yussif/Joseph of Arimathea we all know and love.
