this show reminds me of my first short story i had to write in high school. but at the time i was more obsessed with proofreading and ensuring everything was grammatically suffice, that the story lost its vigor towards the end. i gave it a weak (somewhat satisfactory to me at the time) ending out of mere laziness. still got an A on the paper but just wanted to say how this show reminds me a lot of the plot and structure of my story: rushed nearing the resolution along with many attributes going unaccounted for

I feel like this show was written by someone who thinks they're a very clever writer. There are constant occurrences of misdirection throughout the show but the issue with this is that, if you just take a couple seconds to actually think about it, you see right though it. It's like the second any information is divulged to the main characters they just automatically run with it instead of taking a step back to use their brain..

...without giving anything away I'll just give a relatable example. Imagine a movie where the main character's parents were killed with a golf club by a man in a red hat. Then 40 years later the main character is golfing and sees someone else on the green in a red hat... so they go up to this person and start bearing them up mercilessly... but the person they're beating up is only like 19 or 20 years old... meaning there's no way in hell they could have been the murderer..

That's what happens in this show over and over and over again. It's like the writer thinks they're being clever by relating one thing to another to misdirect you but entirely lacks the ability to connect the pieces logically.

Nobody in this show has a single ounce of common sense and it gets frustrating so fast and so frequently. Idk imagine someone gets shot and everyone in the area looks in the direction where they thought the bullet was coming from and they just see a baby in a cradle sleeping.. well in reality we can deduce that it 100% was not this sleeping baby that shot someone.. but in this show, all they would think would be, "man shot. Gunshot come from that direction. Sleeping baby in that direction. Must be sleeping baby. Everyone attack sleeping baby"

Just, not a well-written show at all.

I'll make it short: I've rarely had as much fun with a series as I had with this one. The acting, the musical accompaniment, the scenery and how the viewer is kept going until the last minute is unbelievably good.

The fact that the story is based on true events ties you even more to the series. You don't get horror in the classic sense, but constant psychological terror.

We watch a family slowly being broken apart by insanity and the drama is conveyed so believably by everyone in the cast. I especially loved Bobby Cannavale in his role.

"The Watcher" is definitely worth a recommendation and is something to be proud of.

Do yourself a favour and dont waste your time. What a let down of a last episode.

Hardy anything makes sense.

None of the neighbours are normal.

Nobody acts normal or realistic.

The "explanation" or lack of, is a let down If the daughter did what she did in real life, she would be disowned and the family would never recover.

Some of the acting from the side characters wasnt great. Maybe they knew it was just a waste of time.

And it was, just a waste of time.

Apparently you can make seven episodes of nonsense and people will think it's great, as long as you have Ryan Murphy's name attached.

Dont waste your time.

Seems like Ryan Murphy realized after the last, oh, 5 or 6 out of the 10 seasons of "American Horror Story" that people were hip to the title and knew not to bother watching, so he started releasing seasonal "miniseries" without the AHS brand but essentially the same thing: well acted, well-produced, contrived, trashily written garbage, with "twists" you can see coming a mile off and absurd contrived characters whose overwrought behavior stretches the bounds of credulity. I was actually about 5 episodes into this, scratching my head about how something with such a talented cast could be such an unredeemable pile of soap-opera garbage in terms of plot, when I finally noticed Murphy's name in the credits.

Please, Ryan Murphy, go back to calling the new seasons "American Horror Story" so we know from the outset not to bother hoping for better.

The Watcher makes Desperate Housewives look like a documentary. The situations are so ridiculous, the characters so caricatural it's hard to think of it as a "true story".

The family acts like complete lunatics with zero common sense and very limited trust to each other. The script is basically one plot twist after another but distant enough so you press NEXT at the end of each episode. At least Jennifer Coolidge embraces the campiness of the whole thing but the main couple are so unlikable you just want them to leave the house.

Clearly someone thought he was doing some sort of clever americanized Parasite (the movie) but the end result is a sad typical NETFLIX watch-bait.

Good concept but very very poor execution.

Arent anyone going to speak about that John were up in the window at 657 for the new family when they were moving in? He were clearly still keep using his secret tunnel, he is living with the crazy lady and Jasper and goes under the tunnel to update them for all the new construction which is to be done. Rhen they speak about it in their club. Then they togheter make the watcher lettere togheter.
as we remember John also had the watcher, and as said in the letters «it is now my turn» i belive the watcher goes on from person to person. John probably had an old one many years ago, and now he haa been for years and to everyone while hiding in the tunnel and at Jasper. And now Dean is obsessed and he wil like to join in also beeing the watcher.

Netflix is the champion of putting out movies & series that will suck the life out of you for absolutely no payoff whatsoever. I'm starting to wonder if they're doing it for the fun of it just to see how long we'll keep paying them to do it to us. The vast majority of their projects end with...no👏🏻actual👏🏻ending👏🏻. Not in a good "gosh this could be interpreted this way or that way". Just NO ENDING as if they just spitter out and have no more juice and say that's it! I don't know who I'm more annoyed with; Netflix for pulling this stunt or me for falling for it yet once again. Five stars for the cast who do a great job, despite the pointlessness of it all.

As wonderful as the cast was, the script felt like an adult adaptation of a Lemony Snicket novel.

I knew nothing about The Watcher and was looking to watch something while on the treadmill the other day. At first I was questioning some of the writing and thinking things were a bit hokey, but then I got hooked.

I watched the entire season in one day. I had to to know what was going on and what was going to happen next. I truly was enjoying what I was watching.

So the last episode came on and I was excited to see how the heck they were going to wrap this up and man did they really mess this up. The plot twists were getting to be too much and when it was all over I was like "Huh? What about this thing and that thing? Why did they bring these things up and not address them any further?

I think its a group effort. You can't do this mess successfully without help.

"Based on a true story" (and they still couldn't create a better one)

I thought the main characters were stupid to not focus more on the tunnels. Also, why didn't he visit the lutheran church!? It was John graf.

I must admit this series did frustrate me at times and also felt like a typical thriller with too many plot twists and turns.

However, what I did find unique embedded in this series is the subject of obsession with materialism and the lengths people will go to to secure and protect those obsessions.

I'm not sure if that was deliberate on the part of the producers to do a series that is part social commentary part thriller but it does work as a suspenseful series that kept this viewer locked in, despite sometimes being frustrated with the obviously dead end twists and turns.

Overall an addictive viewing experience.

I love a good horror movie and I was hoping the Watcher would bring something new. Unfortunately it didn't. It just has all the basic ingredients for a standard horror/scary movie: family moving into a big old house, strange neighbours, teenage kids, daddy losing control of the situation and getting estranged from his family. So boring. Let me not spoil the end but you pretty much can expect it throughout the serie. So, don't expect too much of it and definitely don't expect any James Wong moments, just some entertainment on a boring night with the misses besides you on the couch. Sure you want to watch this boring serie?

You know a show is a fail when the real story behind it happens to be way more interesting.

Such is the case with The Watcher. It is based on real life events that when you go and read about them (or watch a good documentary), make your skin crawl. But this "dramatization" here, in order to justify it's running time, begins to invent ridiculous things that never happened in a real life, causing the underlying original theme to dissolve in a thin soup of nonsensical ideas and fantasies.

Seven episodes of meandering derails this half way.

If this was made into a 90 minute movie, maybe it would have worked.

Even better, if MrBallen talks about it on his YT chan for 20 minutes, you are guaranteed to have goosebumps and you have just saved yourself several hours of unnecessary viewing.

This show gives off the wrong impression that it's based on a true story. The truth of a real crazy story involving a house watcher does exists, and this show simply steals the basic concept of it. That's it. There is plenty of info you can find about the real story and believe me it's more interesting than this crap.

Ok true story bs aside, for a show, this series is kinda dragged out. It could have been shortened and condensed into a movie or less episodes. It's also lame how they instantly make every outsider a possible candidate for the watcher based on their demeanor, cause they really over do it lol. By episode 4 the entire series becomes a train wreck. What a let down. Maybe Ryan Murphy shouldn't take on so many projects at once lol.

Also should add the daughter character is over the top and the drama storylines she creates are a dumpster fire.

Can't help but feel like Dean would immediately buy a gun. Instead spent 7k on security cameras (which is fine) and countless amounts of money on the private investigator. Also did the girl in the bedroom ever get explained?
