Between April 5 and 10, 1971, Chicago played eight concerts (six evening shows and two matinee shows) at the Carnegie Hall in NYC. All shows were recorded, and more than
14 hours of recordings were condensed to almost 3 hours in a 4-LP set called "Chicago at Carnegie Hall", a.k.a. "Chicago IV", the band's first live album.

50 years later, Rhino Records released a 16-CD set with the complete Carnegie Hall recordings, and a 3-LP set with the second show held on April 9 in its entirety was released for the Record Store Day on April 23, 2022. Here you can hear from beginning to end what happened that night, which, BTW, was one of the two concerts at the Carnegie Hall in which Chicago DIDN'T play their mega-hit "25 Or 6 To 4".

I wish Tangelwood was cut on vinyl, This one might be more refined, but Tangelwood was just a more moving performance, particularly Terry's guitar

Yes what a time to be alive. This was a time when musicians had to have talent . This new mix at Lee's studio - unreal...he took an event that was so poorly recorded and breathed new life into it. I saw them twice around 1975, and then when they were touring with the Beach Boys....If you're a Terry Kath fan, this is the best way to hear what a monster he was.7 versions of his solos on every tune and it does not get no better than this .There's a guitarist in Maryland Hagerstown, I think

Chicago in all of its glory! In 1971 Chicago was the biggest band on earth! Cetera bass chops are world class.
Kath was a monster, when he died, so did Chicago. What a time to be alive!!

The Rhino 16 CD set of the entire week is priceless. A Terry Kath tour-de-force.

Is this the version Lee cleaned up on his Covid vacation ? (He did every show played that week; released by Rhino I believe.

Would have made more sense to release digitally where one of the new spatial techniques (similar to a quad sound) could have been used.
ATMOS ? is one. Both are major improvements to any record. can be found on Amazon music. This process cant be added to a physical record or CD because it uses too much space .

I saw Chicago three times. Twice in '71' once in 2011. The last time I was privileged to work backstage and help the setup and teardown. I was just blown away. They were awesome. I'm an old man of 70 now but they were a band of my youth that I fondly recall who I was with and what I was doing at the time as a young man. Great times!

Awesome.
Thank you so much ❤ I paid $ 19.99 for the box. 1972. In my country, Panamá . I have to move back to Panama a few years ago. And I had to separate from the full box in which the whole set lived and traveled for long decades because of luggage overweight. But I kept 2 of the 33 rpm sleeves. Today, as I got up from bed, I was curious about which song was the first on one sleeve. It was 'Happy Cause I'm Going Home'. That's on the Side VII vinyl (reverse of Side VIII ). I jumped out of bed and started singing

There are two songs missing on this LPs. ¨Free¨, ¨Happy Cause I´m Going Home¨and perhaps others. The label on this vinyl is too white: the one I have is ¨cream¨ color. Also, there are 4 vinyls, that is 8 sides. And theyr are roman numbered. From I, II, III, IV and so on, for a total of VIII sides. Can anyone explain ?
