My favorite nonfiction book, which accidentally became one of the best books I’ve ever read is Romantic Outlaws by Charlotte Gordon. It’s a dual biography about Mary Shelley and her mother Mary Wollstonecraft. It is SO interesting, and so incredible to see women being so brazen about women’s rights in such a repressive time. Absolutely LOVED every second of that book.

“Lost Connections” by Johann Hari. It speaks about how the brain works when one is stressed or dealing with anxiety.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is pretty cool. It combines amazing medical science history and shocking medical ethics of the mid to late 20th century. Really got my brain thinking!

I really want to read more non-fiction, so this video was perfect! I really really want to read Sapiens and Virginia Woolf's book 💛 I really recommend Factfulness by Hans Rosling! And Quiet by Susan Cain.

Thank you for these recommendations! It's so great to hear that you still love the books you used during your degree. Most of my favourite history reads are more 'academic' than non-fiction. But if you want to give them a try I would seriously recommend 'Oedipus and the Devil' by Lyndal Roper and 'Crime, Gender and Social Order' by Garthine Walker. A more commercial type book that I am sure you will love is 'The Five' by Hallie Rubenhold.

I also loved Sapiens! I would recommend "A Time of Gifts" by Patrick Leigh Fermor and "Underland" by Robert Macfarlane

A favorite of mine is Cadillac Desert by Marc Reisner. It's about the politics and engineering of building large dams in the American west, mostly west of the 100th parallel. Fascinating reading.

Thank you for the video. I probably will have to buy Sapiens now :D
As for recommendations, I really appreciated the books "The Girl with Seven Names" by Hyeonseo Lee and "In Order to Live" by Yeonmi Park. They are the stories of the authors' escape from North Korea.

Hi, Christy! Thank you for sooo much for all of your book recommendations (nonfiction and fiction alike!). We have such similar taste in literature and I always feel inspired to read after watching your videos. I feel like we could be such good friends if we lived in the same country! You're an inspiration, I raise my tea mug to you ✨

A Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain. That book broke my heart is the best way. It's about her life during WWI in England, her time as a nurse, and all of the people she lost as a result of the war. Vera was so ahead of her time and it's a truly fascinating look into the mind of a young person during that horrific time.

My very favorite non-fiction book is called 'Gang of One: Memoir of the Red Guard'. It's an autobiography by a man named Fan Shen who grew up during the Cultural Revolution, and the book is about his experience and how he escaped to America. I love it so much; it feels like a fiction book, not boring at all, and the people and events he goes through and how he survives all of it is amazing

Definitely recommend checking out "Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow" by Harari. There is a little bit of overlap with "Sapiens", but it goes well beyond it too! :-)

I loved On Writing by Stephen King. I think the simple writing rules he tested and shared are useful and have been improving my writing. I started Sapiens but I didn't finish it. Maybe I'll try to continue during the holiday.

Two non-fiction books I've been loving lately are Educated by Tara Westover and The Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates. Always very excited to watch your videos.
