Today’s book review is about Ryan Holiday’s first book in his stoic virtues series. The book is called Courage is Calling: Fortune Favors the Brave and takes a closer look at the first of the 4 stoics virtues: Courage.

This video is a summary of my lessons and takeaways from this book… and a lot of criticism…

This is a “Before you buy” type of video and in the end of the video I give you a few books that you might be better off reading instead of this one!

The second book in Ryan Holidays series, Discipline is Destiny, is out now and I can't wait to read it. I hope it's better.

I love real reviews.
Most book reviewers just say they really enjoyed the book blah blah blah. They give the same review for all books.
Thanks for being real.

I love Ryan Holidays books!
When I first came across stoicism it was such a fresh new concept and it was different from the emotionally driven need to make things all about ourselves.

Totally agree! When the author can give personal experiences along with those stories does it make a connection for me too

This book was little more than a collection of well-known stories about extreme acts of courage. 100% agree with your review.

I appreciate negative, yet respectfully polite reviews like this one, especially since you offered alternative titles you prefer on the same topic, Courage. I Liked this video & Subscribed to your channel. I’ll dive into your playlists now!

I am halfway through the book and i like the stories that he shares throughout the book. It has inspired me to look deeper into many of the people he writes about. I have read his Stillness book which is really good as well and The Obstacle Is The Way was my first introduction into Ryan Holliday. Bjorn have you written any books yourself?

Thank you so much for your honest review I can definitely see how it would be a little bit more clinical this way.

Loved the review Bjorn. To be honest I read 80 pages of his new book and became bored. You're right the formula is becoming tiresome and there needs to be some shake up in his writing to make it more relatable. Looking forward to your next few reviews, especially Maps of Meaning.

I'd like Ryan to step away from Stoicism for a bit although I understand his entire brand revolves around it. I'm reading Courage is Calling right now and treating it the same way I treat self help books, a fun little read but not expecting to learn anything new. Read the Comfort Crisis and Maps of meaning so I'm looking forward to next week's review!

I'm currently reading: Circe by Madeline Miller, Klara and the sun by Kazuo Ishiguro, Courage is calling by Ryan Holiday and A hunter gatherer's guide to the 21st century by Heather Heying and Bret Weinstein.

Do you read multiple books at a time? I found that reading different books in different place (work, on the bus, at home) helps me read even more

I really love Ryan Holiday books as well but his last couple books have seen soulless as you say. Except for Stillness is the Key which was amazing
