This town is built against the background of Mount Olympus and is located 24 kilometers (15 mi) from the capital of Pieria, Katerini. Litochoro is five kilometers (3 mi) away from the sea and has always been a summer residence for many. It is also a starting point for mountaineers heading for mythical Olympus and visit to the national protected area of Olympus. The town itself is very popular, especially among Greek tourists. There are plenty of accommodations for rent, hotels and a campsite. East of Litochoro, five kilometers (3 mi) away, is the Plaka beach (a Blue Flag beach) and the beach of Kalivia Varikou.
