I had a friend in high school that worked at the local Dairy Queen at the end of first shift. She would find out where we’re all hanging out and bring us the extra ice cream. She told us that if the twirl on the top isn’t perfect, they couldn’t sell it so they always had extra dilly bars and ice cream cones sometimes they brought a cake that was done wrong,
We ate that well that summer!

Back in the 1960s & 1970s, Dairy Queen and A&W were my family's favorite places to go. My go-to at Dairy Queen was either their hot fudge sundaes or a Dilly Bar.

I remember getting a Dilly bar as a kid every time we went to DQ. It was a real treat.

I think more than just DQ stole from Ted Drewes. The signature frozen custard at Culvers is also called a 'concrete mixer'.

“There’s only one menu item that time after time, keeps you coming back for more:”

Me: the chicken tender basket

“The Blizzard”

Me: oh right

Here in Hermosillo, Mexico we got at least 10 Dairy Queen locations and they all just serve treats, no fast food at all. Whenever I'd visit the States I'd find the concept of these places also havibg chili dogs, burgers, and other hot eats to be kind of exotic.

My first job was at Dairy Queen. You want cold? Try working the drive-thru at a DQ in Minnesota in the middle of Winter.🥶

In Canada, Blizzards can be had with Smarties, not M&Ms. This also goes for McFlurries. These are not the small, hard sugar candies that Americans eat. Those are called Rockets here.

A few years ago, Smarties were not made available for both, so mini M&Ms were substituted. People were not happy, and shortly thereafter, Smarties were back.

Dairy Queen is my go-to for its blizzards. Reese's is the one for me, but I really do enjoy their s'mores blizzard and the pumpkin pie blizzard whenever they're available.

When i would visit my grandparents during the summer, when I was a kid, my grandfather would take me along when he visited his friends, one of which owned a DQ franchise. I used to love the Mr Misty drink (DQs version of a slushy).

I've never had a DQ Blizzard, but I really enjoy the Dairy Queen ice cream and the chicken and cheeseburgers.
I remember before they remodeled the location where I used to live it looked like it was from the 1950s on the outside. They had giant blow mold Dairy Queen ice cream cones for the enter and exit signs that lit up at night. Always thought that was cool as a kid.
4:50 Ted Drew's a Route 66 classic in St. Louis. I've always seen pictures and videos of it, but never gotten a chance to go there.

I always found the Brownie Earthquake to be a better treat than a Blizzard.

Wow, there was no mention of having the rights to "Dennis the Menace" for advertising.

Not only are their Blizzards awesome, they pair great with their Flamethrower burger and fries.

20yrs ago, I'd drive to the local mall and special request a small blizzard with M&Ms, Rice Krispies, heated brownie pieces, with a pinch of marshmallow. What a time 😇

Snickerdoodle Blizzard is THE BEST! Seasonal in the late fall and early winter time. It's worth the half of the days calorie intake!

I never met the man himself, but I got the chance in Illinois some years ago to work with the wife of the inventor of the blizzard machine; I didn't delve too deep except to mention my fondness for a good Cookiedough Blizzard, but sometimes she'd talk about how much she and her husband enjoyed getting the processes right and serving all the kids during the summer.
Super sweet lady; sounds like her husband had been as well.

And now I want some cheeseballs and a cookiedough blizzard again...

My favorite Blizzard has pieces of Reese's peanut butter cups mixed in...
