Missed the previous lesson?

Pre-Algebra on Khan Academy: No way, this isn't your run of the mill arithmetic. This is Pre-algebra. You're about to play with the professionals. Think of pre-algebra as a runway. You're the airplane and algebra is your sunny vacation destination. Without the runway you're not going anywhere. Seriously, the foundation for all higher mathematics is laid with many of the concepts that we will introduce to you here: negative numbers, absolute value, factors, multiples, decimals, and fractions to name a few. So buckle up and move your seat into the upright position. We're about to take off!

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

Sal, you are such a great teacher and your lessons are very enjoyable. I
am absolutely thrilled with your immense contribution to learning. If the
Department of Education should continue to exist, you should be its leader.

this is nice for people that are just learning, its a interactive way to get the kids more "addicted" to math

I like these applets to help people think through these ideas - also having you guys talk it through might be useful to some kids.

Our government is so polarized sal's hands would be tied. It is better that he remain as a non-profit politically neutral entity. There is no excuse for those who want an excellent education not to have one, free of charge. The cream of the crop will rise to the top, even if they happen to be among the financially disadvantaged. There is the public library with free internet access. I agree with you about need to stay in private sector. It would just be nice
to have someone in gov with a brain, especially in education dept.

Rhoades,

"Polarized" implies opposites. "Stupid" is not the opposite of "social democratic."

I was hoping you'd prove the one and only one way part of this. It's very intuitive, but the proof never was clear to me.

How about 1? 1 isn't a prime. There is no prime factorization of 1.

You desperately need to create a video in which you prove this theorem. It's pretty easy once you prove Euclid's Lemma: if a prime p divides the product ab then either p divides a or p divides b. This in turn can be easily provided using the Euclidean Algorithm which show that for some integers x and y ax+by = the gcd of a & b, which in this case is 1.

Try doing this with x+dx when x=1. Impossible.
