Dangerous Rail level crossing UK | 8 seconds from when train is in view | fishermans path crossing

Just a quick video of the notorious fishermans path crossing seen as one of the most dangerous rail crossings in the UK.

It was nearly closed down due to the amount of lives claimed over the years but has now been made safer with a traffic light warning system with green and red signal lights.

You only get 8 seconds from when the train is in view until the train reaches the crossing due to the curve in the tracks.

The train reaches the crossing around 19 seconds after the red signal.

The crossing has had a lot of work done to it over the past couple of years and it is now much safer , the lights haven't been there long but they have improved the crossing a lot.

Just a quick video to let people know what the crossing is now like and that it is now a lot safer to use.

It’s more than 8 seconds. The light had changed before you noticed. It’s nearer 15, still not long enough though.

Today I cycled from Liverpool to Ainsdale. Crossed this and wondered what time the lights gave. Dismounted in case I needed to drop bike and jump

I can see it why it would be dangerous but an important thing to note is that most of the deaths that occurred were suicides.

It’s a quiet spot with not too much footfall, fast trains with limited visibility for the driver, no lighting.

Pretty much meets all the requirements to be a suicide spot.

That crossing definitely needs a longer time frame between going red and the train approaching. That is a dangerous crossing

It's about valuing your own life and taking the time to take every reasonable precaution you can before crossing and if you have the slightest doubt just wait a minute or two and have a good look around using your ears and your eyes all the time.

Without a doubt the gates and the traffic lights are a good addition.

Train passes a treddle and turns light red, once it clears it passes another Treddle to turn light to green.

It would cost money. But they could do a bridge overpass or subway underpass there. There is the space for it.

This looks similar to a one near me where you walk across but dont think it has lights this is helpful :)

Surely a barrier system activated further up/down the line with train signals cleared by signal men with CCTV would keep this safe? Imagine someone less mobile who trips and maybe can’t get up quickly enough.

What's stopping Network Rail from putting the sensors that activate the crossing further away for more warning time?

Eight seconds. If you're disabled, you might not have enough time to clear the crossing before a train blasts by. I would increase that to 20 seconds.

That’s really dangerous if there’s no lights. Think about you’re riding a bike or bring a chart of people crossing it and a train suddenly appears.

8 seconds isn’t very long, ideally the lights should go red around 30 seconds before the train is coming

thats not good, the minimum time for when a train first trips the crossing sensor should be 27 seconds at full line speed
