All western states have come to realize that the non resident tags are a huge money windfall. They are ALL making it so you have to pay for years before getting a tag. You have to look at not just the cost of the tag, but what you are forced to pay for preference and bonus points. A tag could cost you thousands of dollars before you draw.

CRITICAL INFORMATION - If a group application includes a non-resident (this include all the Come Home to Hunt Programs) all group applicants are moved to the non-resident pool.

Just went to buy my preference point for 2023. I realized I lost my point from 2022 that I bought in and unsuccessful draw.
An article you wrote in winter of 2022 states in bold, “you must apply at least every other year” so you don’t forfeit your points.
When did this change?

So I was told by Montana fish and game that since the law changed in 2022 you can only hold 2 preference points is this true?

I don't understand the difference between purchasing BONUS POINTS vs PREFERENCE POINTS. On the Montana site, I can only purchase a preference point (for previous hunting season cuz its past September), nothing for bonus points. I just want to purchase a bonus point.
