Her nomination is a clear result of lobbying. This is not to deny her brilliant performance in the movie. Overall, the academy needs to change its rules and allow more nominees.

This is all ridiculous. Perhaps what should be reviewed is why the same actresses get nominated over and over again and why when an unknown woman gets the nomination the media thinks SHE is the imposter. Is it lobbying if you are not associated with a big studio but if you are it’s not? Shame on the Academy for announcing it was undertaking a review. What purpose does that announcement serve other than to undermine the little guy. If the Academy had any class it would have kept it’s silly review to itself. And shame on the media for targeting this woman.

The Oscars is about campaigning and elite endorsement not entirely on quality of the project. This case is an example of that.

I actually saw the movie and she did an amazing job, definitely one of the best performances I’ve seen all year, if it wasn’t for the nom, I would’ve never seen the movie…

The celebrities that lobbied for Andrea did not even watch the movie. They just cut and paste the given comment and posted that on their accounts. That’s why they all have the same wording.

This uproar proves that the awards process is not about merit but rather *financial muscle* (blockbuster films distributed by moneyed studios) or *group entitlement* (certain demographic groups demanding quotas). Shame, shame!

If she was that great why is it now we're hearing about this. No Golden Globe recognition or Critics Choice nomination but suddenly let's give her the Oscar nod?

The fact that people believed so firmly that we would have 3 WoCs this year but ended up having 4 white actresses and 1 Asian woman. Tell me Hollywood isn’t racist i‘m waiting! Don‘t tell me Viola Davis and Danielle Deadwyler don’t deserve it they have the best performances of the year!

Viola Davis should have been nominated for her magnificent performance in "The Woman King". Her physical, emotional, spiritual preparation were astounding. Viola's mastery of acting was on full display and allowed her to set the pace for the whole cast and crew. I've been watching movies for over 50 years and NO movie EVER got to my soul as "The Woman King" did.

This campaign was all about privilege, power and connections. A list, white Hollywood came thru for Andrea but they didn't come thru for actresses of color and they never have. I would not be surprised if she got the most votes for a nomination. Imagine Michelle Yeoh being pushed out for her? one of the best performances of the year. Not even one of the most decorated actresses like Viola Davis could get the same support from her peers. Danielle Deadwyler who was in an equally low budget film couldn't get the support. It really goes to show the systemic racism deep rooted in Hollywood. Also, now ya'll wanna say this is about performance but when it comes to WOC it's about culture. Ya'll wanna take away merit from WOC at every chance.

After her surprise nomination for To Leslie, and the shock from those of us who are into the awards, I was able to view this film, she was dynamic, brilliant and phenomenal in this role. Everyone needs to see this little film then you'll know why she rightfully earned this recognition. Now that the academy deemed her nomination worthy and deserved, we can move on and respect the results when the nominations were announced.

It's interesting because all of these A-list celebs did everything they could to get Andrea nominated and now that she has, they may have just put her in even worse of a position had they not said, "VOTE FOR HER!" and instead just say, "GO SEE THE MOVIE!" and let people make that decision themselves. I haven't seen To Leslie but even if it's the best female performance of the year, I feel like it won't be her performance that is memorable anymore, it's going to be all this drama, ultimately hurting her chances of getting an Oscar this season or in future award seasons, because not many people in the US are as familiar with her and only know her name through this award show drama. Interested to see the outcome and what the hell will happen this year, at the award show.

Her team broke the rules. I'm glad the academy is investigating. But I'm guessing nothing will come out of this.

I'm sure she had a great performance in the movie but so did many actors and actresses in hundreds of movies showing last year and most of them didn't get an Oscar nomination. My opinion is that many of these Hollywood stars probably would not come out in support of her if they did not know her personally. In a way I think it is a good thing for the academy to look into it more closely but I do not think they should cancel her nomination.

She was great in the film and deserved the nomination. My personal favorite performance of 2022

Gwyneth “Worst Academy Award Recipient EVER” Paltrow pushing for someone to be nominated for an Oscar just how (checks notes) Harvey Weinstein campaigned for her to get an Oscar.

Andrea should get a nom for ever performance she does. Insanely talented actress

Oops that kinda backfired didn't it. And let's face it, GIVE Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer a best actress award (the real one, not the supporting one cuz we all know that don't count) already. It's long overdue and you know it.

A big problem I have with this situation is the blatant hypocrisy. If this “grassroots” method was utilized for all underrated and undervalued low budget films, no one would have a problem with it. People keep posting about race, elites, and big budget Hollywood. Don’t you think it’s interesting that as soon as actresses of color (with obvious cinematic talent) start playing by Hollywood’s “rules” that the goal post gets moved again? 🤔 Actresses who have also had their award deserving performances overlooked and told it was just because of campaigns. Awfully funny that the people who have benefited from the system are now rocking your boat to change it so that someone who looks like them can also benefit 🤷‍♀️.

The fact that there was a campaign to get her nominated seems to be the underlying issue.
The academy has increased the best movie nominees to 10, maybe it’s time to increase the best actor/actress nominations as well
