They did it to themselves. I predict that in 10 years from now, there will be 10 so old "celebrities" at the Oscars, which will be held at an Applebees restaurant. At the afterparty they will let each other rub their Oscars and then they will go home and cry in a dank, dark corner in their Hollywood Hills' homes, in a fetal position while sucking their respective thumbs.

I'm disappointed the ratings went up at all, but I can see 2 reasons why they did. 1. They gave out some nominations to movies people had actually heard of this year. 2. People thought they might actually catch another proverbial "slap" moment.

Reason 1 will probably carry over to next year (assuming they're capable of retaining the lesson for that long), but reason 2 will be hard to replicate. Anyone who tuned in this year to watch any possible fireworks will likely not bother next year.
